I disabled updates quite some time ago. That's why I have none of the update-related problems that other people have.

But I still have to get to that laptop and look at its update history.
It too has updates disabled. But it did get updates beyond what the desktop got.
I'll get back with a list of its updates as soon as I'm able.
If you don't have the 2021 October or September updates causing these shared printer issues, I guess it must be something else that caused your printing to stop working.

Guess we'll know for sure once your look at the laptop too. If it has one of these updates, that could be causing the issue.

    Here's the laptop update history.
I don't know why it only shows the latest few.
We got the laptop in 2016 and it had updates enabled until sometime in 2020.

So why are updates from 2016 through 2019 not showing up?
I'd like to know ... but more importantly, it does not have the 2021 October or September updates mentioned above.
But it does have KB4023057 ... installled four different times. What's up with that?

    Code:
    LAPTOP COMPUTER
    . . . . . 09/06/2020 update to version 2004
    KB4023057 10/03/2021 update for Windows 10 version 2004 for x64
    KB4023057 09/11/2021 update for Windows 10 version 2004 for x64
    KB4023057 08/09/2021 update for Windows 10 version 2004 for x64
    KB4023057 06/20/2021 update for Windows 10 version 2004 for x64
Anyway ... I guess my problem does not come from the Sep/Oct 2021 updates. So what's the cause?

Very strange indeed. If you are quite sure that no updates have been installed since 2020 on either PC there must be another explanation for why the system changed.

    Check this please:
Go to the C:\Windows\System32\ folder, and find the file win32spl.dll
    Right click and choose Properties
Go to the Details Tab and check the version number of the file. If it ends in .1288 that is the newest (changed) version and could be an explanation.

    @margrave55 ,
If your USB printer has a network interface: Cannot access network shared printer

Read from the end of the thread backwards

I tried once again to create the printer ... and it worked.

Why now and not before? Dunno. Another case of spooky Windows nonsense.

    Anyway ... case closed.

You can close the case by marking thread as solved.
