Macrium is the typical backup software used in Ten Forums.

If there are drive problems it may generate an error code.

You're trying anything to save applications / software.

    So it's worth a try.

Yup, have an image running on it now...will then install Win10 32-bit on the SSD tomorrow, install that, install Macrium and try re-loading from the image I saved as per @Bree's suggestion.

    This software has a fee.

Consider it as an option in case the above steps fail.

    Laplink(R) – Homepage

This is an additional option with Macrium in case there is an error message:

Imaging disks with bad sectors - KnowledgeBase v7.2 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase

I had a friend who used Laplink and it royally failed numerous times on him. He eventually used Macrium if memory serves, instead.

Image completed to my external HDD without any errors. Tried to boot from my 32-bit Win10 LiveUSB, but it refused. Will try and recreate the LiveUSB tomorrow and see if things will cooperate then.

Boot the computer that has the bad sectors and run these scripts:

    V2: BSOD - Posting Instructions

Tuneup_plus_log.bat Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

DiskParInfo.bat - Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

For share links please use one drive, drop box, or google drive.

On the computer that has the restored image that fails to boot please perform these steps:

    a) test the disk drive using Sea Tools for Windows long generic test

    b) boot to windows RE using a bootable windows 10 iso > run these commands and post images of the commands with results

    Code:
    bcdedit /enum all
    bcdedit | find "osdevice"

    Code:
    diskpart
    lis dis
    lis vol
    sel dis 0
    det dis

HOLY CRAP! I think it finally worked!!! Macrium and restoring from an Image seemed to do the trick!

So, what finally ended up working was:
    1. Boot onto the bad disk, install Macrium, make image to external HDD
    2. Remove bad disk, install SSD, try booting Win10 USB stick to install a fresh Win10 copy on new SSD - didn't work, refused to boot.
    3. Format 2 OTHER different USB drives trying different USB ports....none will boot.
    4. Install SSD in another laptop, boot and install Win10 32-bit on that.
    5. Remove SSD from laptop, reinstall in desktop, reinstall Macrium reflect.
    6. Re-load image from external HDD!

All seems to be working, thank heavens!

Thanks all of you, I can always find good answers here! :)

Will have to definitely keep Macrium in my quiver for when Clonezilla doesn't cooperate! Cheers! :)

    That's terrific!

    You're welcome.

Consider running chkdsk /b /v on the restored image.
    (This can be run overnight)

    Will do!

Done - came back later this evening and it was sitting happily on the desktop, so I assume the chkdsk went fine...?
