    Corrupted Microsd card

My son has a 32 GB micro sd card for his phone. He showed me that it said corrupted on his phone. So i stuck it in my pc via a usb card reader. It read on my pc and i was able to transfer the files to my pc. So i went to scan the card for errors but check disk failed. So i used WD data lifeguard diagnostics scanned it and it found bad sectors and i had it repair it but it failed. I tried using rufus to format the card but it failed to format it.

Used windows format tool and it still failed. Now here is the weird part. Some of the folders on the drive are reporting as being as big as 408 gigabyte yet the card is only 32 GB. And when i cut and paste the files to one of my hard drives the process won't complete until deselect the android folder which tells me that files in that folder are corrupted. After i cut and paste all the other stuff to a hard drive on my pc the file transfer completes but after a little bit the files will return on the card. The files will still be on the hard drive i cut and pasted them to but then for some odd reason the card puts the files back so they will be still on the hard drive plus back on the card.

I don't understand how 789 GB can fit on a 32 GB card It is impossible to do that. And why does the files return when i cut and paste them somewhere else? What other program can i use to fix this card?

    Hi,

If files are safe... Delete all partitions. put it back in your phone and use their format utility to initialize disk back in. If it fails again replace. These are low life.

Once they are done you may be able to read or partialy read them, but you won't write anything. Not even delete a partition.

I know photographers who eat them like chips.

It sounds like it may possibly be a fake microSD card. I would do a full test with H2testw - google where to download it. I've used it for years on every brand new microSD I buy before using it.

I got the files off of it. I put it back in my phone which is newer then my sons and it won't format it. Like i said in my op no program i tried will format it or repair the bad sectors. I never seen corruption that will say the files are bigger then what the card is.

That program won't let me test it as it has to be formatted and since i can't format it i can't test it with that program.

I doubt it's fake as my son been using it for 2 years and it's a sandisk and he bought it from a usa store called target.

He paid 10 dollars for it 2 years ago from a usa store named target. It's a sandisk 32 gb micro sd card. So i doubt it's fake.

2 years is not that bad... This all depends on intensivity of uses and... A bit of Luck... But for large photo / video uses they wear somewhat fast...

If you are not able to delete partition and go on to create a new one and format it with a tool like Rufus... in a sane computer...

    Drop that... Save your brain.

My computer works great except for a very minor problem with icons. I tried rufus and it gets to 5/5 creating file system and that errors out.

Except written "data" Nothing else is commited to partition table until the end of procedure... Since you are only writing an empty partition table... and get an error there... This disk is unwritable.

If you have another SD card to test if your computer is working... You can give it a go... But this card looks toasted...

My computer is working cause it reads all my flash drives, all my sd cards/micro sd cards and all my portable hdd's. I thought i could save my son's sd card. But i guess i'll have to buy him a new one next time one comes on sale.
