Buying High quality SDxx Cards from trustable source is key, if longevety is your goal. 4k pictures burns a lot bits at each writes. High quality Video is even more straining. Only your son could tell you about the uses of these... And you to decide if you require more solid card.

I thought SanDisk was a high quality top of the line cards and should of lasted at least 5 to 8 years not a measly 2 years. My 128GB SanDisk class 10 micro sd card is 4 years old and still working. And he got it from Target a major retailer with brick and mortar stores all over the usa it's even bigger then walmart. But newegg, amazon and ebay all sell fake cards. That is why i told him Target as they get their stuff straight from the manufacture themselves. He's 15 and from looking at the files he has a ton of games on his phone photo editing apps and very weird music files.

Yes... on the phone itself the flash Memory is often more "resilient" But smaller...

But on the SD, it's based on their expected use... 80% chance your not "in that range"... At his age I wouln't have tought an instant about that...

I would have tought It was eternal... (Well almost..)

in the right environment... They dont last very long

Edit: keeping in mind the fact that theres SD cards that cost more than my phone at the moment.

Go to the SanDisk website and check their warranty period.
I think it's 5 years so they should replace it. Warranty Table - warranty period
SanDisk is part of WD now.

Please do post back to tell the rest of us how well they behave when a fault is reported.

    Best of luck,

    What a shame.

By the way, I agree that the card has had it.

I just bought a fake unbranded SD card through Amazon [delivered Saturday, reported Sunday].
It was supposed to be 512GB but failed testing with FakeFlashTest after about 256GB.
I'm getting a refund and, rather impressively, Amazon have already withdrawn this card from sale. I've never seen them react so quickly before.

If that shop is, as you say, reliable then buying from them should be alright as long as you keep the receipt.
[I scan all my receipts these days instead of keeping paper ones.]
But if a direct purchase from SanDisk is possible at the same price then it would save a trip out and would avoid any concern about the possibility of fakes.

    All the best,

A failed SD card is changed to become write locked - so you can recover data from it but you can't write to it or format it. Recover any critical data then ditch the card.

I recently had a Transcend SD card fail having a 'lifetime warranty'. It was hard to track down the UK Transcend office. They would only replace the card if I retuned it. I declined on security grounds since it was not possible to format the failed card to delete personal data. Transcend's warranty policy is worthless.
