Issues with Modern standby and Thunderbolt dock

    Hi All,

I been trying to fix this issue on my system for weeks without any luck. I've restored power plans, updated drivers, flashed firmware, downgraded drivers.. I'm just not sure what to do next.

When my laptop is connected to my thunderbolt 3 dock it doesn't seem to ever fall asleep. I'll hear it from the other room turn on and make sounds as if I'm plugging something in and then disconnecting something. I've been tracking everything as much as I can with sleep study reports. I consider myself pretty advanced but I'm stumped here. It seems there's an issue with the sound card on the dock from what I see, but felt I could use some help from some experts. I'm attaching the latest sleep study report.

    I'm using Win H 64bit v19043.1266

Thank you for all of your guidance

I suggest you post the results of these commands both when connected & when not connected to the dock:-

    Code:
    PowerCfg -a

    {The following one must be run as Admin}
    Code:
    PowerCfg -Requests

Is there any guidance in your dock's manual, support site or its own user forums?

    Hi Try3,

I didn't find anything useful in the Lenovo documentation for the dock. I did upgrade the drivers as well as the firmware. So everything is up to date.

This is the dock I'm using:

ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 - Overview and Sevice Parts - Lenovo Support US

Here are the results from those two commands.
    Connected to dock:

    Code:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> powercfg -a
The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected
        Hibernate
        Fast Startup

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
        Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.

        Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.

        Standby (S3)
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.

        Hybrid Sleep
            Standby (S3) is not available.

    PS C:\Windows\system32> powercfg -requests

    Disconnected from dock:

Here's another sleep study from last night.. it seems the machine was in a cycle of sleeping for an hour and then active. It seems the keyboard is waking the system up, but that's impossible I wasn't near the laptop all night. This is what lead me to it being a driver, but I could be wrong.

Your computer never sleeps. S0 Modern standby is a glorified idle condition not a sleep state.
    - I know the word 'Sleep' appears in various places but it does not really Sleep.
    - I have never found anything useful in a Sleep study report. Perhaps somebody else will join in the discussion who has.

Tracking down an intermittent connection can be a nightmare.
    - Your best first step is probably disconnecting everything that is not essential to see if that makes a difference [and then, if it has made a difference, gradually reconnecting each item to identify the culprit].
    - You should also check through Device manager to see if anything has a yellow warning triangle or if anything is in a section called Other devices [which is a euphemism for Problem devices]. But, since the problem is intermittent, you might not see anything to point to it at other times.

    - It would also be worth going to your computer maker's support website and checking that you have the latest hardware drivers & Bios.

By the way, this forum has a quirk. If you click on Edit post underneath your last post & put back the returns at the end of each line then they will stick the second time.
