    CORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM

This is a homemade Windows 10 system. If my old memory serves me correctly, I believe it was once indicated at 32GB Ram. These two RAM sticks are supposedly 16GB(2 x 8) which now show up in CPU-Z as only 8GB each??? I am currently attempting to solve my issue regarding "WIN10 update will not complete' along with some Win10 forum users and there have been some references to RAM. This failed update has also indicated 'Page fault in nonpaged area' and there has been indications of error 0xc1900101-0x30018. I am going to insert other images here which may or may not be relevant. Possibly also post on another avenue of Win10 forums the "Page fault' issue.CORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-30-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-31-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-35-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-36-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-37-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-38-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-29-.png I have swapped the Corsair RAM with some Patriot RAM (also DDR3) and the attempt at the Windows Update failed with same error indicators. Hope someone has the needed brililant solution!! CORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-39-.png THANKS!!!

According to Corsair CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 is a 16GB kit (2x8GB). You would need 2 of these kits for 32GB. Right now you only have one kit.

Where did I go wrong??????????????? Kindly check the screenshots I submitted with my post! - or to save you the trouble, I will attach them again here!!!!CORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-32-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-33-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-34-.pngCORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-29-.png Looks to me like both 'CPU-Z & RAMMon' both have identified my TWO sticks of RAM as 16GB (2x8GB) - about the same as when I held them in my hand as I read the label!! I can not explain why in some instances on these screenshots it appears to perhaps indicate only 8???

A label that says 16GB is the total for whole the 2-stick kit. You would have 2 x 8GB sticks for a total of 16GB.

The following is a 2-stick kit of Corsair RAM I have.
    Each label says 4GB (2x2GB). That says I have 2 x 2GB sticks for a total of 4GB.

cpuz 1st screen shows 16GB TOTAL
cpuz 2nd, 3rd, and RAMMON all show slot 2 and slot 4 with 8GB in those slots
    8GB slot 2 + 8GB slot 4 = 16GB TOTAL

    CORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM

It appears as though this issue of RAM is a misunderstanding on my part. I began in computers in 1965 on large scale digital (main frame) computers with the Bureau of the Census in Washington, D.C. My PC experience came about in the early 1990's. I constructed my first system a WinXP, followed by a Win7, and now a Win10 (in 2016) and I still have all three (and like many other people I have gone through a half dozen of Microsoft OS's). If you recall PC's in the early days the hard drives were in MB's. Now its GB's & TB's. So, it is not so far fetched to imagine that a stick of RAM like a dual channel 16GB might actually be 16GB with each channel being 8GB!! I have not kept up with technology - who has?? I think that Corsair (and many others) are guilty of a little deception & false advertising by labeling a stick of RAM as 16GB (2x8GB) when in fact it is only 8GB. If I split this supposed 'KIT' and put one stick in my Win7 & one in the Win10 I no longer have a 'KIT', but rather two individual 8GB sticks!! As an older guy in the September of his years (born in 1936) I likely have some issues with remembering some events and dates. Finally, note this screenshot where I do not see any reference to "KIT" in their advertisement. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSES! CORSAIR Vengance DDR3 1600mhz RAM-screenshot-40-.png

To understand what is going on I have to show the history of this...

In November 2002 I purchased the following:
    • MBD: ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
    • CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
    • RAM: 2 x Corsair CMX512-2700C2 512MB DDR-333

Currently memory controllers are internal to the CPUs. Twenty years ago, the memory controllers were separate chips on the motherboards. Back in 2002 the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard was unique in that it was probably one the first to have a dual-channel memory controller. The problem was that a lot of people were having trouble finding RAM that would work with the dual-channel memory controller. In response some RAM manufacturers started testing individual sticks of RAM together to find pairs that would work reliability together. These were "unofficially" being sold as dual-channel RAM kits. Eventually as dual-channel memory controllers became more common these same RAM manufacturers started "officially" selling dual-channel RAM kits.

Note when I bought the RAM for my computer I had already read of the problems people were having with dual-channel. I purchased the Corsair RAM because I had read that other people had success with it. I paid $378 (2x$189) for the RAM!

In the beginning the RAM kits and individual RAM sticks had their own part numbers. You bought the kits by the kit part number. Each stick of RAM had its own part number which was different than the kit part number. The kit part number was only indicated on the packaging.

    Example: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 - 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800
This kit consisted of the following 2 RAM sticks
    • CM2X2048-6400C5 2GB DDR2-800 2GB DDR2-800
    • CM2X2048-6400C5 2GB DDR2-800 2GB DDR2-800

Eventually the only part number that was indicated in the ads and on the labeling was the RAM kit part number. The individual stick part number were no longer known. Note the label on each stick had the kit part number.

    Example: Corsair XMS3 TW3X4G1333C9A - 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1333
This kit consisted of the following 2 RAM sticks
    • Unknown individual part number 2GB DDR3-1333
    • Unknown individual part number 2GB DDR3-1333
