USB Ethernet LAN adapter drivers became REALTEK CD-ROM driver

    Win 10 21H1 Build 19043.1237
A few weeks ago, the driver for 3 USB Ethernet LAN adapters suddenly turned into REALTEK CD-ROM drivers. I think, but cannot be sure that it was an electrical glitch. I was doing Internet speed tests and had all three devices plugged into the router. At one point I was looking at Windows 10 File Explorer while doing a speed test, and the files seemed to be flickering. I shut down the computer, and restarted it and all seemed to be OK, but then I noticed that in File Explorer there was a new Drive K CD-ROM, but I do not have any CD-ROM, internal or external. I was able to determine that the change was with the USB Ethernet LAN adapters. When I inserted any of them a new CD-ROM driver appeared in Device Manager and under Network Adapters the REALTEK USB Family Controller driver was no longer present. I sent all 3 devices to Orico, the manufacturer of one of the 1GB Ethernet Adapters, but they could not find any problem using the devices on their computers, and recommended that I remove all LAN, CDROM drivers and update all drivers once again. I have not tried this yet. I purchased a cheap 100MB Ethernet LAN adapter and it works fine, but of course I am not getting the 1GB download speed that I was getting before. I have in the past experienced frequent problems when I tried to do anything with drivers, and am looking for some clear instructions on how to remove the drivers for the adapters in Safe Mode, if that is the right way to fix this. I did uninstall the CD-ROM drivers in device manager and I am now using Wifi (about 500MB download/upload), but I would like to get the speed I am paying for.

    Hi Howiem

Why a not a Gigabyte Ethernet instead ? It's 100 times better than anything USB.

Not being a tech type I am not sure. Here is the history as best I can recall: My ISP plan says I can use 1GB download and 500MB upload. When I bought the ASUS laptop, there was an Ethernet LAN capability, but I think it was installed by the seller, not ASUS and within about a week of using the laptop, the REALTEK Family controller and associated drivers (don't recall the name) just disappeared, and so did my sound drivers and I was not able to reinstall the drivers. I asked ASUS USA for help and they said that the original configuration did not include Ethernet LAN, only WiFi. The local ASUS rep said they would take a .look at it, but I would be without the laptop for at least 2 weeks, which was unacceptable to me, so I took it to a shop, where they provided USB devices for sound and the Ethernet LAN. Everything worked fine with those configurations and I was getting about 950MB download and over 500 upload speeds. Then I experienced the glitches in my original post. Right now I have 4 USB Ethernet Gigabyte devices, but 3 of them now think they are CD-ROMs. I bought the 4th (USB 3.0) just to see if it worked as an Ethernet LAN adapter. See the attachment. I have a duplicate of this adapter that thinks it is a CD-ROM. I have an Onten USB-C adapter that also thinks it is a CD-ROM - see attachment. And I have an Orico 3 Ports USB 3.0 Hub + Gigabit Ethernet LAN Black (HR01-U3)USB Ethernet LAN adapter drivers became REALTEK CD-ROM driver-usb-adapter-3.0.jpgUSB Ethernet LAN adapter drivers became REALTEK CD-ROM driver-onten-usc-c.jpgUSB Ethernet LAN adapter drivers became REALTEK CD-ROM driver-orico-3-port-hub.jpg. tHE ORICO ALSO THINKS IT IS A Cd-rom
I think I could solve this by just buying another Orico adapter, but that would leave me with 3 useless adapters, so I would prefer to learn how to reset the drivers if that is possible.
