USB Ethernet LAN adapter drivers became REALTEK CD-ROM driver
Win 10 21H1 Build 19043.1237
A few weeks ago, the driver for 3 USB Ethernet LAN adapters suddenly turned into REALTEK CD-ROM drivers. I think, but cannot be sure that it was an electrical glitch. I was doing Internet speed tests and had all three devices plugged into the router. At one point I was looking at Windows 10 File Explorer while doing a speed test, and the files seemed to be flickering. I shut down the computer, and restarted it and all seemed to be OK, but then I noticed that in File Explorer there was a new Drive K CD-ROM, but I do not have any CD-ROM, internal or external. I was able to determine that the change was with the USB Ethernet LAN adapters. When I inserted any of them a new CD-ROM driver appeared in Device Manager and under Network Adapters the REALTEK USB Family Controller driver was no longer present. I sent all 3 devices to Orico, the manufacturer of one of the 1GB Ethernet Adapters, but they could not find any problem using the devices on their computers, and recommended that I remove all LAN, CDROM drivers and update all drivers once again. I have not tried this yet. I purchased a cheap 100MB Ethernet LAN adapter and it works fine, but of course I am not getting the 1GB download speed that I was getting before. I have in the past experienced frequent problems when I tried to do anything with drivers, and am looking for some clear instructions on how to remove the drivers for the adapters in Safe Mode, if that is the right way to fix this. I did uninstall the CD-ROM drivers in device manager and I am now using Wifi (about 500MB download/upload), but I would like to get the speed I am paying for.
