Can you make a recommendation of what to replace it with please? Is my speed limitation the connection of the drive to the computer which I think is a SATA3 connector? I think, but am not sure, that I need to buy a 2280 sized-drive that has a max speed of 600 Mb/s (SATA3). My existing card has two slots at its end (B and M key edge connector). Do I have to get a drive that has the same edge connector configuration? Thank you.... My Windows version is 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1237).

You can get the exact same one, if you want...

    I’m in the us.

I can replace what I currently have but I guess my question is (other than memory size) is there something better and or faster?

I "think" you can use any M.2 2280 SSD with a B+M key. But I'm not 100% positive.

    Choose Storage - PCPartPicker

Easiest thing to do would be to call ACER and ask.

Contact Acer | Quick Response for Tech and Customer Service

Scroll down for the phone number.

I might be able to tell you more, if you could give me the serial number or SNID of the laptop.

I have an Acer Swift 3. It came with a Micron 1100 (256GB) M.2 SATA SSD.
I needed more space so I replaced it with an ADATA SU800 (1TB) M.2 SATA SSD.

I wish that I could be absolutely certain, but a little Web searching suggests that the NP515-51 can use an NVME SSD. Acer Nitro 5 Spin NP515-51-53P5 M2 SSD Upgrade? — Acer Community (Which NP515-51 do you have? That's an incomplete model number.) That would open up your choices quite a bit. It would run a lot faster than the current SATA drive, too.

    At Newegg, you could get a 1TB NVME drive for not much more than that old 256MB SATA drive. M.2 2280,1TB,PCI-Express 3.0 x4,PCI-Express 2.0 x4,PCI-Express 3.1 x4 Internal SSDs | Newegg.com

I haven't found a definite answer as to whether the NP515-51-80XS supports NVME M.2 drives. Acer doesn't make the information readily available.

This isn't as model-specific as I'd like: Does my acer nitro np515-51 support m2 nvme? — Acer Community but it claims that an NVME M.2 drive is supported. The link to userbenchmark.com has it running a Crucial NVME SSD. The SSD benchmark is above what could be attained with a SATA SSD.

I'd be more confident if Crucial listed any M.2 SSD upgrades for your model, though.

In looking at acers product support page for the np515-51-80xs (thanks Ghot), it says that the ssd interface is a serial ata/600. I think that is telling me that I have a sata3 and my speed is capped at 600 MB/s and going with a NVME (if it would physically fit?) wouldn’t do any good. I’m throttled with the sata3 interface at 600 MB/s. Does that make sense?
