I see that the manual (https://download1.gigabyte.com/Files...v.6.0_e_04.pdf) gives instructions on setting up RAID (pages 31-32). Looks like it should be reasonably straightforward (I hope). ctrl-f is indeed how you get into the RAID menu.

Whether it's superior to the Storage Spaces mirrored array, I don't know.

If you use Storage Spaces, I assume that the SATA controller should be set to AHCI, not RAID. Corrections welcome.

Replacing hard drives on RAID 1-disk-management.png

What I want to accomplish is to have Disk 0 and Disk 1have exactly the same information. This includes the System Reserved, the C: drive, and the Recovery partition as well. When I right click on any of the 3 partitions and select Disk 1 and then click Add Mirror, I get "You cannot mirror the current boot volume on another disk with a different partion style".

Any ideas to move forward? Or am I wanting something that won't work the way I want it to?

The boot partition is a specialist system partition and does not allow to be in two places at once. If you wish to protect your system by use of a Raid array yyou can do this with one of the striped set systems

Thanks everyone for you help. This is an older PC and have decided to just do images periodically. Again, thanks to all.

I have a client with a RAID 1 mirror system, the second drive is identical to the first drive and doesn't show in Disk Management, is handled by the BIOS settings. In comparison to other computers it does show a slightly slower file operation speed.

Yes On Hardware Raid the disk that are part of an Raid array are only viewable from the raid configuration console.

Software Raid are a little slower, but you can move them to another MB without having any problems. Cheap integrated Raid have a tendency to be very difficult to migrate even rebuild. If you need Real Hardware Raid I always suggest SAS Controllers and drives or a equaly capable integrated NAS solution.

I've used those Soft Raid since Windows NT3.51 And they have proven their Faithfulness for decades...
