Hi I recently renamed my Samsung FIT 128GB USB flash drive, since doing this after a restart the drive no longer mounts.
I tried checking Disk Management and it no longer appears.
I also tried it in other computers including an old XP machine and it has the same issue.
Does anyone know if there's anything I can do?
If Disk Management can't see the drive is it now dead?
I am running Windows 10 64 20H2
Renaming flash drive would not cause connection problem, but faulty flash drive will not mount i think flash drive is dead.
Check if you are sill covered by Samsung's warranty [5 years]

I cannot tell where you are so do check that the link gets automatically redirected to your country in case the warranty schemes vary.

Thanks, I wondered if I used the maximum characters and there was some sort of known bug.
But it looks like it is dead; just a weird coincidence I suppose.
I have since checked the BIOS and the drive is also not recognised there either.
I suppose there's no way to recover anything now

Strangely I have just recently had an issue with an internal Samsung SSD (bad blocks discovered), so I will check if my flash drive is also covered. I bought the drive from the UK, so that link should be good thanks; I am now living in Ireland so hopefully it won't be an issue.
How long have you been using the flash drive?
I doubt that Samsung support will be awkward. I've had very good experiences with them.
Their warranty is 5 years across the whole of Europe according to the card that came with mine.

It was generally used between a few computers as a portable backup, it was regularly synced but I wouldn't have thought it was near end of life.

The SSD is quite new it's an 870 EVO, hopefully they can replace them both
A hard drive could be a more reliable backup device than a flash drive.
Thanks Matthew, I have a bunch of 6TB desktop drives I generally use for backup; I'm planning to set up a network at home but untill then I've been using the flash drive as a middle man between desktop and laptops as it was more portable.
However, as I've discovered, it may not be so reliable.
I also have a portable USB SSD I have been considering using instead, but recently an internal SSD just had issues (the Evo 870) so I may well switch to using a portable HDD for reliability.
It's a shame as the flash drives were more convenient and had less power usage.
I also have an old router that has a USB port, I might fiddle with that and see if i can just have a drive mounted to that and access it via Wi-Fi in the short term, although I know the performance will be pretty terrible.
I have a slim portable HDD: 114.8 mm x 78 mm x 11.7 mm. It is convenient enough as well as power-saving. It works on a USB hub providing power for a fan and a phone simultaneously.
