Notification about disconnected device (my phone) keeps popping up

Last night, I connected my phone to my PC to grab some photos from its storage. Now, usually when I'm done and I turn off file transfer mode on the phone itself, back to "no transfer/charge via USB," the device/storage usually just disappears from Explorer and nothing else happens. And I don't even need to "disconnect" it via the task tray because there's no icon for it, and no need to, to begin with. Now, I get this error about the device no longer responding or being disconnected, which, oddly enough, only started happening recently, and always pops up twice, no matter what steps I take before unplugging it. This morning, though, after waking the PC and being on it for nearly two and half hours, the error pops up yet again. And I didn't even connect the phone, in that time frame.

This is the error in question.

The question is, why did it start doing this out of the blue one day, and how do I stop/prevent it in future?

I've tried uninstalling and deleting the driver, but the problem persists.

    Currrently running Windows 10 Pro x64, 21H1 (build 19043.1202)

    Hello @GuyInDogSuit,

Can you please perform the following . . .

Check for ANY Problem Device Errors

[1] Click on this TenForums link => Batch Scripts / Programs.
[2] Click the direct download link Problem_Devices.bat in the MENU.
    [3] Run the .bat file.

    • If you want detailed information about the .bat file then scroll down the thread until you get to the relevant section.

    If there are NO ERRORS:

You will receive the message NO PROBLEM DEVICES WERE FOUND!, and NO log file is created on the Desktop.

    If there are ERRORS:

There will be a Problem_Devices file created on the Desktop.

    EITHER:

Copy & Paste the results into your post using the [CODE] tags . . .

[1] Open the Problem_Devices file in Notepad.
[2] Press the Ctrl + A keys together.
[3] Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
[4] In your post, click the Hashtag icon #.
[5] Click INSIDE the [CODE]Here[CODE] tags and press the Ctrl + V keys together.

    • In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:

    <<< Results Here >>>

    OR:

UPLOAD the file => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

    I hope this helps.

Reconnect the 'phone and go to Control Panel >Devices and Printers.
If it shows up,then RIGHT click the icon and select ---Properties---click on the Hardware tab---then click on the ---properties--- box and then click on the ---Details ---tab.
Click the ---down arrow--- under the Property heading and scroll down to the following, checking each one for information---
    1 Removal policy.
    2 Removal policy Default.
    3 Safe removal required.
If number three [3] is positive, then it is advisable to do so.

    Please re-read the OP again.

There is no option to "safely remove" the device. I have tried.

If the device shows up in Control Panel>Devices and Printers, then right clicking the icon gives you 4 selections.
One is "Properties",given in post3 above.
    Another is "Remove Device"
If there aren't any policies covering "safe removal",then common sense dictates using "Remove Device"
    Re-read the context menu.

You do realize "remove device" and "safe removal" are not and do not do the same thing, right?

And to make matters worse, over 24 hours after I had plugged in my tablet to transfer files, I suddenly got multiple error messages, much like the one I originally posted about, this time regarding said tablet.

Yes I do realize they are not the same, which is why there are separate entries for them.

So you're telling me I should "remove device" every time, instead of "safely remove device"?

    That uninstalls it, you know?

    Necro-update

I had the same problem. Out of the blue I started getting "Device has become unresponsive or unplugged" pop-up notifications whenever I unplugged my phone from the USB cord.

The problem was fixed by uninstalling the device ("remove device"), then plugging it back in and letting it auto-reinstall the driver.
