HP Stream PC13 - bad choice, bad design, bad everything

    Hello.

I am having a lot of struggle with this POS laptop.

What idiot thought it was a good idea to fit W10 x64 UEFI on a laptop with 2GB RAM and a tiny 29GB SD card?

Tried invoking CSM mode in BIOS and switchin to x86. It somewhat works but some chipset drivers aren't available.

    Good job HP.

PS- Steer clear of this type of laptops like the plague.

I have 2 Notebooks that have the "lack of storage" problem with Win10, a Dell 11" and an Acer 15" with 32GB drives. They do now allow the last 5 twice-yearly Upgrades because at 20+GB there's not enough space, usually 10GB or more and don't allow USB Thumb drive or SDHC card use to gain it. They are living quite happily with Linux Mint 20 and occupying only about 12GB of the space.

Yes, Linux crossed my mind as valid option. But I don't know if my customer want to use Linux. I guess not.

Well. I have finished installing it. I have managed to obtain 6,4GB of free space even after installing some apps. Not bad but not good either.

You may be able to squeeze a little more free space out of it. Any contents of C:\Windows\Servicing\LCU can safely be deleted, for example. My full install of x86 21H1 plus a few apps such as LibreOffice is a little under 20GB. It did have the advantage of a reasonably large HDD though.

    My curiosity was piqued. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04519650

This US listing has the device as delivered with Windows 8.1 X64. Presumably about as cramped as Win10 X64. Seems like an odd choice for what is basically a Web PC (limited RAM, limited storage).

What was HP thinking. "We need a system that is price-competitive with the no-names. Performance? For this price, you expect performance?"

Nice idea. On the other hand, my customer says pc is performing quite nicely.
