    CDex 2.24 requires ASPI drivers

Downloaded and installed CDex 2.24, which on launch warns this:

    CDex 2.24 requires ASPI drivers-aspi.png

Native NT SCSI Library support is not supported by this operating system.
You have to install ASPI drivers in order to use CDex. See the CDex Help File for more information.

    Any ideas what's happening?

Advanced SCSI Programming Interface - Wikipedia

It includes a link to the latest driver (from late 2002): Adaptec - Adaptec Driver: Windows ASPI drivers version v4.71.2 Download Detail

Edge Chromium gives me warning about the site being unsafe. (As does Chrome.)

What this mainly may be telling you is to use a different CD ripper. Exact Audio Copy is a good one, although it can be complex.

Thanks for the link, however I had already tried that. Windows 10 says it's incompatible:

    CDex 2.24 requires ASPI drivers-untitled.png

This app can't run on your PC
To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher.

    CDex 2.24 requires ASPI drivers-untitled2.png

    Unsupported 16-Bit Application
The program or feature "\??\C:\ASPI\aspi_471a2.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available.

    Oops. I didn't try it.

Win10 X64 cannot run 16 bit software. Some 32 bit software uses a 16 bit installer.

There may be work-arounds, but if it was me, I'd use a different ripper.

So you are implying that if I use Windows 10 32 bits, the 16 bit compatibility will work, but on 64 bits not?

I wasn't trying to imply anything, but I believe that's correct.

I believe that x86 (32 bit) Windows installations are rare. The forthcoming Windows 11 seems to lack a 32 bit version altogether.

    Downloaded and installed CDex 2.24,
That download has a virus. Drop it into virustotal.com and watch your screen light up with red. The most-recent authentic CDex is 1.70b2.

I know it's possible to run CDex on Windows 10, because I've been using it regularly for years, until yesterday.
I renamed the drive letter of drive that had some programs on it, including wnaspi32.dll .
CDex stopped working, complaining "Native NT SCSI Library support is not supported by this operating system."
I created a symlink so wnaspi32.dll would appear to be at the same location as before, but CDex still complains and won't read my CD drive.
Oh, I also changed the drive letter of my CD drive. Maybe that did it.

I was struggling to get rid of that same pop-up for hours yesterday.
The problem was that I'd changed the letter of my Blu-Ray drive to B.
CDex will give that Native NT SCSI Library pop-up if you give your CD-ROM drive the letter B (and probably also if you give it the letter A). It's probably assuming that it's a floppy drive.
