Impact of changing my IDE ATA/ATAPI controller driver...

I recently received a BSOD indicating that iastor.sys was the culprit. What impact would there be on changing to the default windows driver, replacing iastor.sys, on my Storage Spaces? I don't use the RAID function of iastor. System is configured as AHCI.

    The motherboard is an Asrock Z87M Pro, running a i7-4790 with 2x8GB DDR3 @3200.

I'm concerned that the driver change my corrupt or delete the Storage Space. I currently have a single pool of 4 drives configured as parity.

    thanks for your input.

Have you considered updating the iastor drivers through Intel?

If you are not running any "fake" Intel RAID or Optane, MSAHCI standard driver might be stabler.

I think I've found the latest ones for my motherboard at Intel's site. I'll try their updater utility to see if it finds the same one I did. It hasn't been helpful in the past.

Agreed, for a different system I definitely had better SSD performance on the MS drivers, but I dimly recall having some issues on this Z87 motherboard with my SSD and the MS drivers. I can't recall the issue right now.

Either of you expect a storage pool to be corrupted if I test drive the MS driver?

Theoretically there should not be any adverse effects.
    The normal rules apply.
If you back up first, everything will be fine.
    If you don't,it wont.

I do have a system backup, even for the storage space. I just updated iastor to the latest available for my chipset (04/10/2017,14.8.16.1063) using the intel driver update utility. No loss of my Storage Space
