Usb To Sata Ide Cable Usb 2.0 To Sata Converter not working in windows

I have purchased this Usb To Sata Ide Cable Usb 2.0 To Sata Converter in hopes of retrieving old photos off an external hard drive and the older type hard drives BUT my windows 10 wont find it or anything, I can hear the drive running but nothing from my computer, I have checked disk management and there is no extra drive. Is there a driver I have to download in order for my computer to recognize it at all.

If you can, give a 3.5" SATA HDD Enclosure a try.The one which I use is a NEXTECH and is not expensive. It takes all HDD"s,old and new and removes the need for multiple cables. Two screws only to swap drives.
It has usb 3.0 and sata 1/11/111 compatability,no need to hunt for old drivers.

Windows (any version from XP onwards) should find whatever drivers it needs for those USB to SATA / IDE adaptors - I have one just like it & I have never needed to install any drivers.

    Hi there
And of course you could run any of those old OS'es as a VM. Attach the drive to the VM Guest as a "Physical drive". In any case you still need to attach an IDE data cable to the MOBO unless you have a powered IDE->USB box with all the electronics inside

The only way an external ide->USB connector would work would be if the connector had some sort of external power connector plus the data connector to the drive. I'm assuming the HDD is a "Classical internal 3.5" IDE Spinner rather than a 2.5 laptop type ide / pata drive.

Otherwise - you'll have to open computer case and connect the power cable (the 4 wired thing) to the HDD, and there's an old fashioned probably 20 pin ribbon IDE DATA connector on the MOBO. Connect one end to the HDD and the other end on the MOBO and re-boot. If that doesn't exist then the only way will be via an external box>USB with all the required electronics inside the box. I'd leave the computer open so you can remove the HDD and the IDE cable easily again when you have recovered your data.

This is what the IDE data cable looks like :

I did not need any drivers to use mine.

Turns out the power cable was faulty, it was getting power but not enough for the computer to recognize it
