    Disk Management Reports in Error

    Curiosity here.
    (Using Windows 10 version 10.0.19042)
In Disk Management (Windows 10) my drives are all reported as NTFS
Right clicking each drive, going to Properties, then Volumes,
    they are reported as GPT

I know they are all GPT

Just wondering why Win 10's Disk management doesn't say that instead of NTFS...

And why, when formatting, are we not allowed a choice of GPT?

BTW My system boots up in UEFI mode, having no issues with any items at all.
Just seems odd to me the translation problems Windows has...

GPT and MBR are names for partition styles. On an MBR disk, the partitioning and boot data is stored in one place. ... In contrast, GPT stores multiple copies of this data across the disk, so it's much more robust and can recover if the data is corrupted. GPT also stores cyclic redundancy check (CRC) values to check that its data is intact.

NTFS, FAT32, and exFAT are filing systems, not partition descriptions.

When you format a drive, you are asked to choose the filing system. When you manage your disks, you are asked whether you want them in the GPT or the MBR layout.

    Hope that helps.

GPT is a standard for layout of partition tables, NOT a file system standard such as NTFS, FAT32, etc.

    Cool

So I'm good to go with formatting as FAT

Be aware that Windows has a partition size limit of 32GB with FAT/FAT32 formatting which in turn has a single-file-size limit of 4GB. exFAT doesn't have that limit.

    What, exactly, are you formatting?
