HP G1 with Switchable graphics: Cannot control Vari-Bright or Variable

This is windows 10 Pro running on HP 450 G1 with Switchable Intel HD & AMD Radeon HD 8600/8700 Graphics.
I actually have 2 of these, identical except for one having SSD the other HDD.
Both are up to date Windows 10 Pro Version 19043.1052

The Graphics drivers appear to be last/current on both.

The issue is old Vari-bright [sometimes written vari-brite] - an AMD power saving feature similar to Windows [or is it Intel?] Variable Brightness, although the purpose for each is different as I read: The AMD 'feature' responds to what is being displayed; the Windows feature responds to ambient lighting.

The problem manifestation looks like a monitor problem: the display brightness nervously changing three or four times in a matter of seconds as one engages with applications painting the screen. I've dealt with this in the past, usually easily resolved with the AMD control panel, old or new. In this case, neither old Catalyst or new "Radeon Software" panels have a setting for the feature - it is being defeated somehow. I've looked up the data and pictures etc on both - its just not there. Using Catalyst, the entire PowerPLay section is actually empty. The category is there, but there is nothing 'under' it.

How do I defeat this devil? I searched the registry for a "Vari-bright" key but there is none.

    all help gladly applauded!

In Radeon Software, are you looking for Vari-Bright in Settings > Display > scroll to last option?

    Hello @cognus,

I just did some investigating for you and found this . . .

    I hope this helps.

thanks much. I will try again. This "Radeon Settings" iteration must have been a half-way point between old CCC and the current "Radeon Software" . Their names are not very distinct sometimes.

speaking of names, in AMD vocab, what do they call the setup this laptop has, with Radeon HD 8600/8700 And Intel HD Graphics sharing memory on an Intel motherboard? In HP lit they use the term Switchable Graphics although they apparently did not intend "intentional switching" in the scheme - there i no way I see to verifiably do that - one can add a High Performance power plan and max everything - presumably that should do the trick, or otherwise you're flying blind. Some of these hardware arrangements, this being one, seem to fall into a support crack with no AMD control package detecting them properly leaving them featureless.
