Do you have any desktop computers? If you do you can connect your external drives to them. That way you can connect to the drives over your network from your laptop and not have to worry about dropping them.

I think there my be some problem with you reading and understanding what it is I am asking you to do.
The report from Speccy is the SMART report on the drive
It does not tell me the file errors found or apparently found on the windows chkdsk
I succeeded at running chkdsk on my external SSD. The drive passed but there were some file corrections.
I have asked twice now for the report of the chkdsk /f
from event viewer see my post 9 please and post 7 on how to get the results

I also suggested on my first reply that having seen what the errors were on the chkdsk result you run Crystal Disk - post 2 refers and see if that reports all is in order.

As you have now confirmed the drives are NEW and are not in fact hard drives
I am experimenting with two 2 TB external hard drives
    but Solid State Drives
So I recently purchased 2 new SSDs that store 2 TB and connect to a USB 3.0 port. After connecting each of them to each PC they appeared In File System.
IMHO another aspect is are the SSD drives genuine
Fake and illegal products sold on Wish.com – Which? News
The drives are new, purchased from WISH. The drives were manufactured by JMicron.
usually a good indication is if the price seemed too good to be true
one might expect to pay something in the region of $200 plus for a 2TB Micron SSD in an enclosure with usb connection

As you know I have two JMicron SSDs that connect to a USB 3.0 port and I have two PCs running Win 10 64-bit. After attaching a drive I looked in File Explorer to determine the drive letter(s) assigned to the drive. Once I had obtained a drive letter I went to the Command Prompt in Administrative mode and entered chkdsk (drive letter): / f and ran chkdsk. Next I opened Event Viewer, selected Windows Applications, went to the Filter Current Log and searched for Chkdsk and wininit. I looked on each report for Bad Blocks and there were none. How can I post the reports to the Windows 10 Forums?

With the entry open click copy lower left on open window and paste to reply

    This is rather hard work
As you do not comment or mention what post - Crystal Disk - or are you not going to run that
It will provide a comparison with the errors on Seagate and when we get it the chkdsk report

Also re my last - does the comment regarding the genuine aspect of the purchase raise any concerns for you or are you satisfied that you have bought genuine Micron SSD drives.

JMicron has not responded to my post. I will wait until Monday before sending a certified letter to their management,.

    • I will send the results of running CHKDSK right now
    • I intend to run Crystal tonight.
    • Here is another issue caused by one of these drives: When I plug one of the SSDs into a USB port on my Win 10 notebook the notebook will note boot. I have to boot the notebook and then plug in the drive. When I go to File Explorer and click on the drive icon it takes 2 minutes before File Explorer displays the file names of files on the drive. During this time my wireless mouse is frozen. I plugged the drive into another Win 10 notebook and the same thing happened. What should I do correct the problem?

Hello Macboatmaster, Here is one CHKDSK file that I save to my hard drive and then copied and pasted it

I bet there is an easier way

You may also usefully use Crystal Disk Info to confirm the differing results from SeaTools and checkdsk
    CrystalDiskInfo – Crystal Dew World
I would not rely too much on Speccy confirming all is OK unless it is supported by chkdsk and Crystal Disc.
If those support Speccy, then I would tend to ignore Seatools. - keeping however a watch on the situation of the report from Crystal Disc and chkdsk -

Hello Macboatmaster, I downloaded Crystal standard edition, installed it- could not find away to run it on my external drive - clicking on Help was no help.

I have been trying to follow this thread. Some times you talk about external hard drives while other times you talk about eternal SSDs. Which type do you have. They are entirely different technologies.

You also keep referring to your JMicron drives. I guess you got that from Speccy which indicated "JMicron Generic SCSI Disk Device". This is a common mistake when Speccy is confused and just indicates the USB/SATA interface controller which is made by JMicron. As far as I know JMicron only makes electronic controllers for external drive enclosures. I have never heard of them making external drives. Also, you still don't know who made your drive. In fact the Speccy information above indicates a hard drive not an SSD. Another strange item is "SATA I 1.5Gb/s" that version of SATA became obsolete over 15 years ago.

Please run Crystal Disk Info on the drive. Maybe it will clear up the confusion and show you who really made the drive. Also, you don't seem to know who made the drive enclosure. A drive enclosure that comes with a drive is responsible to support the drive not the manufacturer of the drive.

BTW, JMicron is not going to respond to your email. You probably confused them because they don't even make drives.

In fact drive manufacturers do not generally respond to emails unless they actually made the drive you bought. For example, Seagate does support and respond to inquiries about both internal and external drives they make. However, Seagate does not support and respond to inquiries about external drives even if the internal drive in it is made them. They will refer you to the manufacturer of the external drive itself.

Here is Speccy and Crystal Disk Info information on a 2TB external Hard Drive I have.
Note that the drive is a Western Digital Black 2TB 3.5 inch hard drive in a Rosewill USB/SATA enclosure.

    MisterEd,

I went to Crystal`s website and downloaded Crystal Disk Info 8.4.2x64. When I run Crystal Disk Info it does not detect the external drive, only the internal drive. I have tried this on both PCs with both USB drives connected to a USB port . I looked for a tutorial on how to configure Crystal Disk Info and did not find one. Can you help me?

That description seems to indicate it is a case, which can support a disk of up to 6tb..Yet the picture claims 8tb support.

The second picture you posted is far too small to read.

Are we to assume you bought the case and also the disk in the tiny picture - which you then inserted into the case?

Did you test the disk by attaching it internally - if you have access to desktop machine to do it? That way, you could work out if the problem is the disk or the case.

It is really a mix- up as MisterEd commented
We still do not know if they are spinning hard drives as reported by Speccy on a SATA interface in a usb enclosure

The drives are new, purchased from WISH. The drives were manufactured by JMicron. I have written to JMicron and asked what software to use to analyze the internal workings of the drives. The invoice does not give detailed specifications so here are the specifications for each drive from Speccy.

    SATA type SATA-I 1.5Gb/s
    Device type Fixed
    ATA Standard ATA8-ACS

    Speed 5400 RPM

or if they are SATA interface SSD solid state drives - not a spinning platters with read write head as you say they are.
    I raised this sometime ago
    =======================================================
I also raised with you that WISH has something of a reputation for sellers marketing non genuine products#
It may be a large marketplace, but so is EBAY

The details you have provided from WISH mean little

the acid test is - as I said in post 12
IMHO another aspect is are the SSD drives genuine

and mentioned again in post 14 = as above - to which you have made no comment.

It really would be easier and enable us to help you more efficiently if you replied to the points raised.
However I appreciate as I said, that perhaps you may find it difficult
I think there my be some problem with you reading and understanding what it is I am asking you to do.
if for some reason you do, then please do be assured that I am only trying with other members to do my best to help you

I am not sure if during the topic it has been asked or you have mentioned it
Can you access the data you believe you copied to the drive?
    which appears to be
    Used Space 144 GB (7%)
    Free Space 1718 GB (93%)
    on one of the drives

    and
    Size 1953 GB
    Used Space 17.7 GB (0%)
    Free Space 1935 GB (100%)
    on the other

There is a problem that arises when I plug one of the external drives into either PC. This does not happen with both external drives.

The notebooks will not boot. If I remove the drive from the USB port and reboot the computer then plug the drive into a USB port the drive appears in File Explorer, but when I click on the drive nothing happens for two minutes, I timed it with my stop watch, ohce the drive appears I am able to copy files to it.

I can provide Speccy and chkdsk information about the drive and soon when I find out how to get Crystal to recognize an external drive, I will provide that information; here is information from Speccy.
