I am still leaning towards it being that power on button, but thought that I would check - just in case. Thanks. I will try replacing that power on button and hopefully that does resolve the issue for me. If not, I will look into the power supply unit.

    Again, Thanks so Very Much

I had a similar problem due to a faulty XFX PSU a while ago. It is essential for the PSU to supply a +5V power line to the motherboard even when the PC is off. When you press the PC On button, the button connects the +5V standby line to the PSU commanding the PSU to turn on. In my case the +5CV standby signal was slow to appear or sometimes was not output . The PSU was replaced under warranty.

You can use the 'paperclip test' to check the PSU operation.

I've gotten that "Microsoft Account" thing a couple of times. In both cases, I just had to go to the link and verify my account's PIN. It was not a big deal. I have no idea what triggered it.

Thanks so Very much for all the help and suggestions. - the message about the ms account is gone now and has not returned

A little Web searching suggests that the power button is Dell part number f7m7n. I see replacements for sale at Amazon and eBay, at somewhat high prices.
This was exactly the part that I needed! The part arrived on Saturday evening and I installed it this morning and my pc turned on the first time I pushed that power on button. I got a brand new one for $30, I saw them for cheaper (and more expensive) but those that were cheaper were being shipped from Asia and I needed that part as soon as possible - lol. Well worth the $30!

Thank You So Very Much for Everything!

I'm never sure when I'm actually helping, but I'm gratified that it worked out for you.

you were most definitely extremely helpful and I am so very grateful. Also thrilled to now be able to just walk up to the computer press the power button and have the pc turn on again. It is amazing how much different the new button feels compared to the old one that I just replaced.

    Again, Thank You!!!
