    Understanding partitions

The following image is from Macrium Reflect showing my boot drive. This is a 237 GB SSD.
I don't quite follow how (or why) there's 4 partitions, one of which is grayed out showing as 455 MB and another 521MB showing as red, suggesting it's near full. Thanks for any advice.

    Run:

DiskParInfo.bat - Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

Open disk management > by default some columns are compressed > widen each Status and Volume > make sure the contents within the parenthesis are in full view and that none of the characters are cutoff > view disk 0 > widen this row as needed so that all of the characters are in full view > post an image into the thread

Download and install Minitool Partition Wizard > click launch > post an image of the results into this thread

The first two partitions are normally hidden system partitions required to boot and repair Windows. The last greyed out part is unallocated space. You can extend your C: partition to use this space which I would do using MiniTool Partition Wizard.

    James,

What you have is perfectly normally and you do not need to take any action. Windows creates those ancillary partitions when it installs.

The full Disk mgmt [or Partition Wizard or whatever you used before] diagram would have been easier to respond to. By cropping off most of the information you would have hindered analysis had there been anything abnormal.

Disk mgmt cannot be used to join that unallocated 500MB partition to the main Windows partition because they are not next to each other. I don't know if any other partition managers could shuffle things about but it's hardly worth bothering for <500MB, surely.

    All the best,
    Denis

James1093, as Steve and Denis already explained, the partitions you have were created when you installed Win10 as Legacy-MBR.

You have a unallocated space (unused space) at the end of the drive. As the Recovery partition is getting out of space, this is what you have to do.
    - Windows Disk Manager is very limited. I suggest you install MiniToolpartition Manager Free
    - Disable WinRE. Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    reagentc /disable
    - Open MiniToolpartition Manager, select the Recovery partition, expand the right border to the end of the unallocated space.
    - Enable WinRE. Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    reagentc /enable

    It should end with
    - A System partition (100MB)
    - A Windows C: partition (237G)
    - A Recovery partition (976MB)

Many thanks for the replies. I've been pondering what to do! Worried about buggering something up by installing something I've never used before. No existing Win 10 app will do ? Megahertz gave some very exact steps then confused me with The WDS256G1X0C is a M.2 WD Black and I suppose it isn't installed on the Intel DQ45CB. What's that mean? ( I have downloaded the file from your link, but not run it yet)
If I don't have to do anything, that's fine. Getting full is ok? And those few hundred MBs don't really matter now I see it better.
