SD card not detected unless inserted before boot

I have a common issue with my SD card where the card is not detected if I insert it while Windows is running. If I insert the card before booting up, then the card is recognized. The card works as expected with other operating systems.

Do you know what kind of card reader you have in your system? If so, it might be worth going to the manufacturers web site to see if they have some updated drivers for the card reader.

Update: If you are not sure how to go about locating updated drivers for your card reader, see if you can gather the info below. I'll do my best to see if I can find updated drivers.

Open Device Manager and locate the card. It may show up as a "memory technology device" as it does in the screenshot below.

Right-click that device and choose Properties. Go to the details tab. In the properties box, choose "Hardware Ids" as in the screenshot below.

Grab a screenshot of this page or post the information that you see here (The name of the device and the values shown) as highlighted in the below screenshot.

Finally, go to the Driver tab and provide the information available there. I'm especially interested in the current driver version.

    I don't see much detail here: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys...00_17_Spec.PDF

But I'll try to see if there's any updated drivers tonight, thanks.

Your .pdf file is for a Lenovo but your My Computer shows a 17" Dell. If it is a Dell go to support.dell.com to get the driver/s, plug in the Service Tag number located on a sticker usually on the bottom of the case, in the battery compartment or in the BIOS Setup.

Sorry, it is a Lenovo Y700 I'm dealing with, not the laptop in my profile. I will try to add this one. Unfortunately I did not find any applicable drivers on their site or updates through Windows.

Can you provide the info that I requested in post #3? No promises, but I'll do my best to see if I can locate update drivers to see if that resolves the issue.
