Bad news!! I just tested it the hard way, and it seems you're wrong. Brink is wrong too. @Brink @dalchina

Windows 10 Home edition, 20H2 completely ignores option 2. The regfile was added, reboot complete and it still wants to download a truckload of wrong drivers.

I need a means to stop this madness. One that you have tested and works because this gossip has been around for a while.

You cannot disable driver updates by any of these methods

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable including driver updates in Windows Update in Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

It doesn't apply to Windows 10 Home.

I based my comment on Brink's and quoted that. He's usually correct. Your order of criticism seems inappropriate.
Feel free to disable Windows Update completely and take control with a 3rd party utility such as WUmgr.
Thanks but I still want security updates to be auto applied.

    Or you could try
Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

I can't test these as I don't have your problem.

@Brink- your comment is invited regarding post #6 and your comment after the tutorial, given what ish4d0w says. Thanks!
Well I'm sorry but I'm really angry at this point because I just crashed my system due to this. I was given wrong advice despite raising my doubts. Please excuse my frustration.

What's really, really annoying here: a quick search reveals that this had been reported to be not working several times. Yet, it is being actively recommended.
That tutorial needs updating and we need a new method.

And now if you excuse me, I have to find my recovery USB and roll back my system to yesterday's image...

Another hour of offtime due to this.

Yes, but this is what confused us:

Windows 10 Home users will be able to use OPTION TWO in the tutorial on the first page here, but only if they have at least build 14328 installed. Luckily this will also work in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on Aug. 2nd.

This is WRONG or steps are missing. Adding that regfile alone and rebooting does not stop the madness that windows update is spilling on me.

    This is WRONG.
    That post was from 2016.

If you read the info at the top of the tutorial, it clearly states in Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions. This does not apply to the Windows 10 Home edition.

Alright. Sorry for the trouble. That post was suggested to me and I trusted it.
Luckily I had a backup but this is still really something that needs a proper solution.

It shouldn't break anything if you did set it in Windows 10 Home though. You should be able to use the undo option.

It did not. It wasn't the regfile that caused issues, it was the wrong drivers that broke my system once installed - the very reason why I wanted to disable them because I knew this would happen if they were allowed to be installed.

Anyway. Since their is no proper replacement solution as far as I am aware (if you know it please let me know I'm looking for something with the same effect as adding that regfile),

could you all please help me to upvote this new feedback I had just created? You could also comment on it to bump it for MS to see.

Or, since Home edition users effectively don't have a way to properly disable driver updates without disabling Windows Update altogether or updates one by one, Brink may I ask you to share these feedback hub links around the forums so others who have this issue may see and vote? Thank you.

Thank you for this! This does work and is a good idea however still only a partial solutions because I have to do this for every driver update and also future ones as they appear.

A general blocking rule, such as option 1 and 2 would be preferred, but I'm starting to believe that such a solution may not exist here.

The other way could be, as Microsoft is experimenting with putting them to optional updates, for them to be completely turned into optional updates. But that is not the case of today.

Alright, I have calmed down, sorry for the outburst!
    Restore done, all good.
Reporting on the issue: it seems that the Windows Update minitool and similar tools which can cherrypick and blacklist updates from Windows Update, are the best workaround for these kinds of issues right now, on home edition.
But it is still so unbelievable that MS does not provide an option to do this.
