What's really, really annoying here: a quick search reveals that this had been reported to be not working several times. Yet, it is being actively recommended.
That tutorial needs updating and we need a new method.

Alright. Sorry for the trouble. That post was suggested to me and I trusted it.
Luckily I had a backup but this is still really something that needs a proper solution.

It did not. It wasn't the regfile that caused issues, it was the wrong drivers that broke my system once installed - the very reason why I wanted to disable them because I knew this would happen if they were allowed to be installed.
Anyway. Since their is no proper replacement solution as far as I am aware (if you know it please let me know I'm looking for something with the same effect as adding that regfile),
could you all please help me to upvote this new feedback I had just created? You could also comment on it to bump it for MS to see.
Or, since Home edition users effectively don't have a way to properly disable driver updates without disabling Windows Update altogether or updates one by one, Brink may I ask you to share these feedback hub links around the forums so others who have this issue may see and vote? Thank you.

Thank you for this! This does work and is a good idea however still only a partial solutions because I have to do this for every driver update and also future ones as they appear.
A general blocking rule, such as option 1 and 2 would be preferred, but I'm starting to believe that such a solution may not exist here.
The other way could be, as Microsoft is experimenting with putting them to optional updates, for them to be completely turned into optional updates. But that is not the case of today.

Reporting on the issue: it seems that the Windows Update minitool and similar tools which can cherrypick and blacklist updates from Windows Update, are the best workaround for these kinds of issues right now, on home edition.
But it is still so unbelievable that MS does not provide an option to do this.
