Just tried the new USB windows installation and has got stuck on Where do you want to install Windows showing the new SSD.

It has now moved on to Copying Windows files (0%) and stayed there for quite a long time! It seems as it is progressing at snail pace, I will leave alone for the rest of the night and see how far it has got in the morning!

Failed with error 0x80070057 which says cannot write to the partition on this drive.

When doing this, I always use Macrium Reflect to image (not clone) all partitions to an external drive the recover the partitions to the new SSD. Always works fine.

That is the next thing I am going to try once chkdsk /f /r has finished on the old HDD.

This is Scopio's previous thread on resolving an issue upgrading to 21H1. There's a screenshot of partitions (MBR) in post #3.

Does the SSD has to be unallocated space or do I have to create one whole partition?

A clean install is (normally) to unallocated space and Windows creates its own partitions.

Copying partitions from one disk to another is similarly to unallocated space on the destination.

Thanks. I don't know why the SSD had partitions as RAW after I deleted the clone partitions, which I have now formatted it to NTFS unallocated space.

Reflect copies the partitions to the new drive in the same way you recover a PC in the event of problems.

I have run into another problem when creating an image with Macrium an error VSS Error; 0x80042306 - Volume Shadow Copy Error
which means it failed to create a volume snapshot.
    Macrium Solution
    Re-register the VSS components
Copy and paste the following lines into a DOS batch (.bat) file and execute:
    cd /d %windir%\system32
    net stop vss
    net stop swprv
    regsvr32 /s ole32.dll
    regsvr32 /s oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 /s vss_ps.dll
    vssvc /register
    regsvr32 /s /i swprv.dll
    regsvr32 /s /i eventcls.dll
    regsvr32 /s es.dll
    regsvr32 /s stdprov.dll
    regsvr32 /s vssui.dll
    regsvr32 /s msxml.dll
    regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll
    regsvr32 /s msxml4.dll
    vssvc /register
    net start swprv
    net start vss
But I do not know how to create batch files! I wonder if someone here can help to create the batch file, please

You seem to be having a lot of problems. Is this with a different PC?

Macrium has a VSS repair tool - have a look on its GUI.
