    misbehaving mouse after driver updates

    Hello,

On the advice of a helper in another forum for another issue, I updated drivers for my Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 15IIL05. Since that day I've been having all kinds of trouble with my Logitech M570 trackball. I have removed it, and uninstalled it - but can't roll back the driver (option is muted). I have tried slowing the double click speed way down, and even did a system restore to before the drivers were updated.

Here is what the mouse is doing (not every time, but WAY too much & it's driving me crazy & making it hard to be productive):
    - selects a letter, word, or more instead of click cursor between letters
    - single click maximizes or minimizes windows
    - single click on pause behaves like a double click - it will briefly play & goes right back to pause
    - single click opens email in new tab instead of just focusing on the email in the same window (again like a dbl click)
    - single clicking delete icon deletes 2 emails instead of 1 (again, like a double click)
    - snipping tool: select area doesn't select (long click sometimes works) & I have to click on New again (sometimes 2-3x)
    - if I click & drag an icon, it opens the file

What can I do to get my normal mouse function back?

Hi, you might see what reducing your double-click speed does.
How to Change Your Double Click Mouse Speed in Windows 10 - Solve Your Tech

    Otherwise, you could
    - download a copy of the mouse driver from your manufacturer's site
    - uninstall the drive and click the 'delete' box
    - restart without internet connection
    - install the manufacturer's driver.

Done, as noted in original post.

    Otherwise, you could
    - download a copy of the mouse driver from your manufacturer's site
    - uninstall the drive and click the 'delete' box
    - restart without internet connection
    - install the manufacturer's driver.
I did go to Logitech & download the newest driver - even after removing the mouse via Device Mgr (removing via CP/Mouse doesn't allow me to delete anything - options are muted) and rebooting, the Logitech driver doesn't install, as it says I've already got the most recent driver.

    Thank you for your reply.

What happens with a simple wired mouse?

As a trackball user for many many years, I will suggest something, though you might had thought of it, and might sound stupid:
Clean the trackball and the three connecting points, where it connects to the ball.
A single dust there can cause all of those problems.
If you use any liquidy stuff, make sure to make it dry and clean again.

You can assign buttons and speed using Logitech SetPoint Software.
And there is a firmware update for M570, which you can download from Logitech's site.

Oh yes, I've cleaned it I think twice in the past two weeks! I just rub my thumb over the points - it's like navel lint or toe jam LOL

Revisiting this thread looking for additional assistance.

The firmware update tool (specific to the M570) says everything's up to date.

I've been using a backup wireless Logitech mouse M325, which is not giving my any issues but it's not a trackball. I've tried reconnecting the M570 a couple of times while troubleshooting a keyboard issue found here: backspace key behavior changed, which was resolved via an Intel update, but unfortunately we didn't run across a solution to the mouse problem, which persists as described above.

    Good afternoon @3point1

Before we start exploring your mouse problem, could you please verify the following?

Press Win key + R, type or copy & paste following into the 'Run' dialogue box and press return.

    Code:
    main.cpl

This should launch the following Mouse properties dialogue window.

    1) Please confirm that the ClickLock checkbox is not checked.

If the box is checked, uncheck and press apply & OK, then test that the mouse behaves properly. Then ignore the remaining questions.

I attempted several mouse function tests with the ClickLock enabled and my mouse behaved erratically and inconsistently like the behavior you described in post 1.

    2) Also, while successfully using the older M325 mouse, did you use the same software for both Setpoint & Logitech Unifying Software?

    3) What version of Setpoint do you have installed?

    4) I believe you mentioned removing the mouse using the Device Manager, however; you were not able to install driver software after a reboot. Is this correct?

    5) Does this PC have a trackpad or touchpad and does it also misbehave, same as the M570 Mouse?

    6) Have you tested this mouse misbehavior while booting to Safe Mode?

I have never enabled click lock on any computer, and the box is and was not checked.
    2) Also, while successfully using the older M325 mouse, did you use the same software for both Setpoint & Logitech Unifying Software?
I have never actually installed any s/w for the M570 (or the M325) to my recollection.
    3) What version of Setpoint do you have installed?
    6.70
    4) I believe you mentioned removing the mouse using the Device Manager, however; you were not able to install driver software after a reboot. Is this correct?
correct - the message I always receive is that the s/w is up to date.
    5) Does this PC have a trackpad or touchpad and does it also misbehave, same as the M570 Mouse?
yes, the laptop has a touchpad. I have never gotten used to touchpads and disable them whenever possible, so I cannot answer that question.
    6) Have you tested this mouse misbehavior while booting to Safe Mode?
no, because the behavior is erratic, and takes a while to show up - the last time I tried using the M570, I was able to use it for about a day before it started acting up. When I boot into safe mode, which is hardly ever, I don't do anything with the exception of a specific task, then reboot normally.
