k-lite codec pack. Is it safe?

My recommendation would be to uninstall K-Lite Codecs Pack and replace with VLC Media Player. There's no need to install a codecs package.
Download official VLC media player for Windows - VideoLAN

That link is quite un-related , Its about someone suffering from codec problems and someone recommending a different solution , I have been using that codec for almost 10 years and it did not manage to surface that problem for me at any time , nor have I updated it in quite a while so to believe the new update broke it , on a side notice the 0 KB files were not accessed at any point earlier , they just surface out of pure random .

I noticed that your free space on the HDD is rather limited. I wondered whether the automatic defragmentation of Windows is acting on your HDD and gives these issues.

I was also thinking about the limited free space available and more specifically about how Windows or the disk controller might be misbehaving.

I suspect most of us use a quick format on a stick and rarely consider that more recently produced devices are more likely to have bad sectors resulting in increased fragmentation of larger files and/or data loss.

In the past, it might have been less relevant. An interesting test might be to perform a full format on 1 of these misbehaving sticks and increase the free space for a short term. Two tests for the price of 1.

As you're probably aware, a full format would include marking bad sectors.

Another possibility is to use a third party tool to quantify the bad sectors.

Can We Remove Bad Sector from Hard Disk Permanently?

This article is relating to errors on a HDD, however; still useful to understand bad sectors.

    FYI:

I always eject external drives before shutting down. Also I disable Fast Boot. (See Ralp_G reply in above link)

Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

Check if Last Boot from Hybrid, Full, or Hibernate in Windows 8 and 10
