Int. HD partition Keeps Disappearing (Z Drive) others are OK

I Have an internal HDD drive with multiple partitions & one keeps loosing it's letter? It keeps disappearing and I have to re-assign it and reboot.

This has been happening for a few versions but I'm getting fed up of it now.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can stop this?

    Thank you.

In a command prompt with admin privileges try:

    Code:
    diskpart
    select vol z
    remove
    automount scrub
    assign letter=z
    exit
    exit
Note the above commands must be started when Z: drive is present.

    Hi,

I have previously scrubbed the automount points for this drive, but the problem persisted.

I have done it again so I will let you know, soon.

    Hi @Lottiemansion

Try increasing/decreasing the size of the last partition Z: without losing any data. Then check whether you lose your drive letter.
Reason: It is quite possible that the start sector of the partition where the Volume Boot Record resides is weak. If that is what is causing the frequent disappearing , shifting the start sector even by one sector may resolve the problem.

Note: You may do well to do a Surface Test of that HDD.

Glad to know that the issue got resolved by shifting the Volume Boot Record at the start sector of the partition ( by resizing the partitions). Nothing to be alarmed at this point but periodically do run a surface test and check. For peace of mind, you may also check the health of the HDD with the Limited Trial/Free version of Hard Disk Sentinel Download Hard Disk Sentinel
