After switching on printer, Windows still sees it as off-line

I have a Brother HL-L5100DN laserprinter, connected via LAN to the home network.
Since a Windows update, there is the following issue.
When I switch on the printer and make a print, the printing process does not start. Windows sees the printer still as off-line. When I set via Control Panel the printing status first on off-line and then on on-line, Windows starts to see the printer and prints normally.
Any trick or setting to solve this?
    W10 64 bit 20H2; Brother firmware and driver up-to-date.

    Hello @PiKo,

Just a thought really. What is the Default Printer set as [ I do NOT have one on here but it will give you an idea ], and have you run the Printers & Scanners Troubleshooter? . . .

After switching on printer, Windows still sees it as off-line-p2.png

    I hope this helps.

Brother is default printer. I do not let Windows manage my default printer. The troubleshooter says that the printer is off-line, but running the troubleshooter inspires Windows to see the printer.

This is usually loss of IP address.
Depends on how you are setup. If say the DHCP server is your Router then check what IP address is assigned with what the Printer thinks it is.
If they differ you will get that Off Line message.

If you have manually assigned fixed IP addresses then check those.

My old HP Printer was a bit prone to loosing IP address(Router is DHCP server), but the current Canon seems much better at automatically getting it right.

How is the printer connecting to the LAN, Wired or Wireless? I have 2 printers connected via Ethernet cable to the Router and seldom have issues either with the Ethernet-connected Desktops or any Wireless/Wi-Fi Notebooks. I seldom actually turn the printers off, let their built-in power saving work. And I assure the Wireless Direct feature is Off on both.

    To be more specific:
    - when the printer is on and my PC not, and I start the PC it sees the printer and there is no issue.
    - when the printer is off and my PC is on, and I start the printer my PC sees the printer in an off-line state (dimmed in Control Panel). Even after a waiting time of 20 min. the printer remains off-line, although a print job is waiting.
Some action (troubleshooter, setting in print queue off-line and on-line) makes the printer on-line and printing starts.
    Regarding the network:
Network is LAN, not WLAN. Printer has a fixed IP, assigned by the router. When my PC sees the printer off-line, I can still ping the IP address and become a reaction.
The issue was introduced after a Windows update. I am not sure whether it was the latest (20H2) or before. An recent update of the Brother firmware and drivers did not solve it.

I did some googling and found the following:
    - printer remains off-line is not uncommon
    - installation of printer is standard over WSD printer port. It has some advantages but is also prone to error.
    - alternatively you may install over TCP/IP printer port, which is less prone to error.
Therefore I reinstalled the Brother now over the TCP/IP printer port.
I will report later whether it solved the issue..

Indeed, changing the printing port from WSD to TCP/IP solved the issue.
