    Microsd Slot on Computer/Laptop?

Okay so i have a security camera that I use a while back that stopped working. I was told to fix this... i need a micro sd card and need to download the correct firmware... then once its there... put it in my security camera to flash it... to try to fix it.

I don''t have a micro sd card here with me now... left it in another location so i will have to buy one. It will be one of those 32gb micro sd cards on amazon i will buy etc.

Now... my laptop or computer needs a micro sd slot for this right in order to download software/firmware? Otherwise i need to buy those sd card usb adapter?

Laptop is dell xps 15 9550 and on the right side of my laptop... right next to a usb port... that seems to look like one. But im not sure if it is. Can someone tell me if it is? Thing is it looks pretty big for a micro sd slot as its really wide.

My chromebook doesnt seem to have a slot anywhere. Its an acer. I do have old desktop called dell xps 8100. Does that have a micro sd slot?

I am trying to get my security camera to work but was told i need to download firmware to micro sd card... then put it in camera and flash it.

    Thanks.

All my Notebooks and 1 Desktop have the SD card reader but they support the newer 4GB and larger cards. The MicroSDXC cards come with an SD adapter to make the small card useful in computers and cameras. The older SD cards were stopped at 2GB but there's still readers for them in old Notebooks, if wanting to use a newer card one can get a pocketable USB device, mine is a Targus High Speed SD/SDHC/MMC/MicroSD, doesn't need the adapter for the small card, nice for transferring photos from a SmartPhone that uses the MicroSDXC for additional storage. I was told my dell xps 15 9550 has the standard sd slot and not the micro sd slot so i have to buy an adapter.

But can someone tell me if the dell xps 8100 desktop from a decade ago has the micro sd slot? I have access to this old desktop now so if it has a micro sd slot, then i won''t need to buy that adapter... and only need micro sd card.

So you are saying my decade old dell xps 8100 desktop certainly won''t have a micro sd slot then right? If it does... it would be a standard sd slot like the xps 15 9550 laptop?

Is this what i need to get if i dont have the micro sd slot? Any of these two would work?

What about this samsung 32gb micro sd card? Is this better? Also... it seems to include the adapter even? Or not?

Your laptop has the SD slot you need on its right-hand side.

The Samsung 32gb microSDHC card (with adapter) that you were looking at is all you need... although that particular card is overspecified for just carrying out a firmware update.

    Hope this helps...

Thanks. I do see it on the right side of my laptop. But im not 100% sure that sd slot still works though. I am close to positive i never even plugged anything into that slot on the laptop. But you still recommend that over the usb option?

Could you tell me if my decade old DELL XPS 8100 desktop also has that sd card reader? I have that desktop with me now. I guess at best it has a sd slot... but no way a micro sd slot right since that desktop is very old?

The samsung 32gb micro sd card link i posted... does that come with an adapter? In the description it sounds like it. But that would also be the adapter you just posted about? So buying that would get me both a samsung micro sd card and adapter?

And would you suggest samsung 32gb microsd card or sandisk? Sandisk is bit more expensive but isn't samsung the best for micro sd card? The micro sd that i have that works... but i dont have it with me at the moment, it was a very gold sandisk micro 32gb ssd.

    Thanks.

Your Dell XPS 8100 has a 19-in-1 media card reader. It looks like the SD slot is top right.

You will still need a microSD adapter for it to fit in either the laptop or desktop SD card slots.

The Samsung microSDHC card comes with the adapter you need. Any brand of microSD card (with adapter) will do. The instructions for flashing the security camera should include the information about what type of microSD card you need.

    Hope this helps...

Thanks. Well i haven't used my old DELL XPS 8100 in a very long time. I'm asking this because i rather use it to download firmware update on to the microsd card... as oppose to using my dell xps 15 9550 laptop.

Okay so i still need a microsd adapter to fit in either laptop or desktop sd card slots. So to be on the safe side, paying a bit extra for that usb stick for the microsd would be better right if you don't know if your sd card slot might be damaged? Why do people buy that vs the cheaper microsd adapter?

Okay so the samsung microsdhc card comes with the adapter i need. I was not aware of this at first. I thought any microsd card you buy... didn't come with this? Or almost all do? I checked the sandisk 32gb microsd card and it also comes with the adapter as well. I was surprised by this because i thought you had to buy any adapter separately.

Okay so based on this, which of those links would you recommend me buy? I think best options is that samsung microsdhc card right?

I see I forgot to mention. I actually have those of those cameras with me right now. One works and one doesn't work.

Then when i get the microsd card and adapter and flash the firmware... if it works... great... then i use that samsung 32gb microsd card with that security camera that gets fixed. Then i buy another samsung 32gb microsd card and put it with the other security camera that works right now. But say it doesn't fix the firmware in the broken security camera, well i just use that 32gb samsung micro sd card for the security camera right?

You already have two SD card readers... you don't need a third, portable SD card reader. (It would be an amazing coincidence if neither of your existing SD card readers worked.)

The Samsung microSDHC card with adapter looks a good fit. I had a look at others but the Samsung one seems to be a good deal.

    Hope this helps...

Hey, yea i get two SD card readers and odds are both doesn't work is slim. But again, i never used my laptop one ever. I am pretty sure i used the desktop one but again this was a decade ago.

Also i rather do it on the desktop old xps 8100 because anything i download, rather do it there as oppose to my main laptop.

But why do people buy portable sd card readers then? Is it because no sd card slot on their laptop? Or its more convenient? Most laptops have standard sd card slot right? I do notice my chromebook doesn't have one. But any windows laptop should have one rightt?

Okay so I will most likely get that samsung microsdhc then.

I was surprised by this because i thought samsung was the best... yet it cost a dollar less than the sandisk so i was confused why that is the case. Also i see lot of ppl say they got counterfeit micro sd cards with sandisk in reviews. Is that very common? I do see its shipped from amazon.com though and thus not 3rd party.
