OK, i have edited my post. So read it again and show me the screenshots.
I have also edited my post! When selecting the partitions in PW, double clicking on the partition does not open a new window. Nothing seems to happen unfortunately.
Now just for info the following Getdataback screenshot shows the status of of my data partition in my 500GB GPT trial drive . I haven't put any data in it. But still the basic partition structure files like System Volume information, MFT and MFT mirror are there. For an internal HDD Recycle Bin will also be there.
OK. let us see how things unfold when we run TestDisk. Please download and install the latest Stable version 7.1 from TestDisk - CGSecurity
Run TestDisk as Administrator/
Screen 1: [No Log] Enter.
Screen 2: In your case you will select 1TB faulty drive. [Proceed] Enter
Screen 3: [EFI GPT] Enter
Screen 4: [Advanced] - Filesystem utils - Enter.
Screen 5 Post this screenshot
OK , that is exactly what I expected.
Now go to my post #29 here How to repair a damaged partition on a data drive? and follow the screenshots there
In effect, you will choose the MS Data partition, change type from "Unknown" to "NTFS" and check whether folders/files are listed. Go upto that and post the last screenshot when you hit on
[List]
If inbetween you get any screen other than that in that flow, post the screenshot to let me decide what further needs to be done ( If I can ) ( TestDisk is highly interactive. I cannot predict what any next screen will show. I have to see and decide if anything further can be done)
When selecting list, this is the screen that shows up.
I can continue following the screenshots, I just did not want to move forward after you said to stop there. Looking at the boot sectors, it shows the boot sector status is bad and the backup boot sector is OK. Should I move forward with the Backup BS function?
The fourth possibility and an important one:
Boot Sector - OK
Backup Boot sector - OK
Hmmm... both are good. Then what is the problem? MFT???
You will execute [Repair MFT] command.
If TestDisk says 'Both MFT and MFT mirror are OK" Close TestDisk. You will run check disk on that volume to correct the file system corruption. Caution: You will run checkDisk only and if only TestDisk confirms that your MFT is OK and you will not interrupt Check Disk for any reason)
My post here and the joyous OP: External hard drive visible in Partition Magic but not explorer Solved - Page 2 - Windows 7 Help Forums ( In this thread TestDisk said MFT and MFT miirror are OK.The OP then ran the checkDisk Command given there and regained his drive. I repeat- the above caution note applies)
If TestDisk says it is unable to repair MFT you will have to use a commercial software to recover the files - GetDataBack or active @ File recovery. These are "try before you buy" software. If these show your files, you may be able to preview/open the files and check the file integrity. You can buy a license only when you are satisfied.
