HP Envy x360 15m-dr1012dx: Two hard drives?

I'm working on a HP Envy x360 15m-dr1012dx. The specs say it has a 512GB nvme, and that shows in disk management. But it also shows a 27.25GB "D" drive that is bitlocker encrypted.

Does anyone know what this second drive is all about?

    Thanks.

    1) Open disk management > by default some columns are compressed > widen each Status and Volume > make sure the contents within the parenthesis are in full view and that none of the characters are cutoff > view disk 0 > widen this row as needed so that all of the characters are in full view > post an image into the thread

    2) Download and install Minitool Partition Wizard > click launch > post an image of the results into this thread

    3) Run:
DiskParInfo.bat - Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

    4) confirm the computer model:

    5) Open administrative command prompt (ACP) and type or copy and paste:
    manage-bde -status
When this has completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

Thank you, @zbook. I'm not clear on what benefit that would be. I'm just trying to understand why an extra drive is present. It is doubtful the owner put it there, I will ask her when I talk to her. Thanks again.

I use an HP Envy 17 TouchSmart Notebook with a 1TB HDD [free, rehabbed instead of junking]. It also has provision for a second HDD, been toying with the idea of changing the boot drive to an SSD and making the HDD for storage.

This is on an NVMe, with an i7 gen 10, so it's fast. Solid state would make yours fly. I'm wondering if the previous tech added something, though the unit doesn't appear to have been opened.

My clients are of the older variety but could be that computer was assembled with a specific use in mind that would need more storage than 512GB can provide. Some folks get by with as little as 250GB but then there are those that need bigger, better, faster. I don't have a storage problem yet, 2 x 2TB NAS drives attached to my Router and Switch Network by Ethernet.

She hardly uses any storage. The only thing I can think of is she's medical and the bitlockered drive might be for sensitive patient data. I'll ask her when I return the machine in a few days.

That certainly would be a prudent use.

    I'll let you know...

She doesn't know anything about the second drive. She bought the unit off the shelf, yet HP says there is only one drive in that model. The drive says "Raw" in file manager, which says it must be formatted. Not sure where I got the idea it was bitlockered; it may be, but I'm not sure. IAC, we're leaving it for now until all her accounts and data are known restored.

    Good plan.

I just checked mine and the one thing missing for mounting the second drive is the cradle/bracket/cage and its screws.
