    Mouse exceptionally slow

Win10 Pro 1909 18363.1440 no further updates currently available to me.

    HID-Compliant Mouse

My mouse movement is exceptionally slow.

When I first got this computer a few months back, I had a hard time settling on a mouse, finally decided to stick with a good old fashioned wired usb. Every time I switched mice, I had to increase the pointer speed in mouse properties. It's currently at max, but, up until yesterday, that was fine, it was the speed I wanted it to be.

Yesterday, I had to replace my monitor, went from 1080p to 2160p. But, wow, everything is too small for my old eyes. So, I have the monitor resolution set for 1920x1080, so it looks like it did before. But, now, it makes the mouse even slower!

I've unplugged the mouse, and uninstalled the driver from device manager, and re-plugged in the mouse, but this made no difference (control panel still has me at insufficient max speed). What else can be done to reset the mouse speed, or otherwise speed the tracking up?

    Thanks for reading!

Control Panel --> Mouse --> Pointer Options --> increase pointer speed (move toward "Fast")

Have you tried this? If not, give it a whirl. If so, sorry to belabor the obvious.

already furthest to the right, max fast. That's what I was trying to imply when I said I increased speed in mouse properties. Sorry if I was not clear! Thanks for the response!

I'd wondered about that. You might want to see if the mouse maker has a utility or control panel widget of their own. It may provide additional cursor acceleration. If not, you might want to switch to a big-name mouse (e.g. Logitech or Microsoft: use a Windows Mobile Mouse 3500 myself, but looking at Mouse & Keyboard Center right now, I see no additional acceleration controls). It could be that a change of mouse will help, even so: you might want to try a different one to see if it makes any difference.
Sorry for your troubles, and hope you find a workable solution.
    Best wishes,

The switching of mice is what's been part of the problem. The mouse speed control panel item stays at it's current level, despite every time I've tried a different mouse, it reduces to default speed (typically, I like it two clicks above the default). That's why I'm hoping for a way to reset the mouse back to default. Thanks again for your input!

If you're using USB, try wireless or Bluetooth, and vice-versa. Want to try a different communications chain from mouse to OS. This is an odd and interesting one. Hope you get it sorted. Keep us posted, please!

I've done wireless, that was my first try, the one that came with this computer, decided it didn't fit my needs, and switched back to wired. Bluetooth is certainly a possibility, but, damn I hope I get used to the slower mouse speed (if needed) before I actually have to buy new hardware (that may or may not solve the issue!)

You might try looking at the .reg settings listed here: How To Change Your Mouse Speed In Windows 10

Registry already shows speed 20. But, that brings up an interesting thought. Is this reg key safe to delete? If I delete it, and reboot, is this a key that will automatically be re-created in it's default form (ie, 10)? Might this solve the issue?

Only one way to find out for yourself for sure:
    1. Make a complete image backup
    2. Delete the reg key
    3. Reboot and see what happens. If it's weird or you don't like it, restore your backup.
