AMD Ryzen vs Intel i series

hi all i have to confess when it comes to hardware I'm a bit of a noob

my main laptop is a toshiba s50 , i7 , 8gb ram with 250ssd - main thing I use this for is DJing (I use Pioneer Rekordbox)
for most other things I use my Chromebook

however my windows laptop is dying (touchpad stops working, battery is buggered ) not to mention Ive dropped it a few times.

so looking to get something new and therefore want some opinions on the AMD processors against the Intel i series

i don't think for what i want i can stretch to another i7

what are your opinions on the AMD Ryzen series and in particular the 7 series?

For your specialist interests Intel are still the best CPU. There are reasons for that in the CPU design and other chips which I will not go into, far too heavy weight.

Both AMD and Intel make great chips and I don't think you will go wrong with either one. I go back and forth between AMD and Intel chips based on who has the best overall setup at the time. I built 3 desktop computers, all within the last year (one for my son, one for myself and one for my wife). I did Ryzen's in all of them. All 3 of them have been absolutely fantastic. For me, it's a combination of available motherboard features (like PCI-E Gen 4 for NVMe) as well as cores, and speed and IPC. I've felt lately that the bang for the buck is in the AMD camp. And the best news is that this resurgence in AMD is only going to make Intel work harder and it will be better.

For a laptop, I'm not as familiar with AMD chips in them. Almost everything I have supported over the years, has been Intel. I've never personally owned a laptop with an AMD chip. I'm not saying AMD in laptops is bad in any way, it's just the way it's been that I have never had one.

My advice is to set a budget and look for the features you want. Go with whatever you can find that meets those requirements. Whether it be Intel or AMD, you likely aren't going to have any regrets.

The rekordbox system requirements don't seem very restrictive. I have no personal experience with it.

AMD's traditional virtues are with their CPUs with integrated graphics. AMD calls the APUs (accelerated processing units). AMD also pushed 64 bits on the desktop (Intel restricted X64 to their Itanium series), and were the first to market with PCI-E 4.0 motherboards.

My first PCs were Intel. I switched to AMD during the Athlon X64 days (socket 939). Went back to Intel with their Core series. Both of my current desktops use Ryzen CPUs. I'm not a loyalist of either company. (I admit to a fondness for nVidia graphics cards, over AMD.) I also have an inexpensive laptop with an Intel I3 CPU.

I'm not in a position to offer solid advice, but I'd be surprised if you could go wrong with AMD. (Or Intel.)

I have to say this that Rekordbox is very light compared to other DJ software I've used.
For example when I used Traktor if the wifi was on and other processes running it would glitch and freeze etc

Rekordbox on the other hand seems very light in the way it installs and then runs so I don't think I need the highest end of processing for it.

In the UK I'll definitely get a lot more back for my buck with an AMD chip and hopefully open up the manufacturers I can use.
