    Brother MFC-7420 printer issues

We recently got a Brother MFC-7420 printer second hand.

It works well, except that if the print density is set to 1200 DPI, which is apparently the default, it prints four times as large as it's supposed to, and only prints the upper left quadrant of the page.

If it's set to 300 or 600 DPI, it prints the correct size and good quality.

Could this be a driver issue?

We also have a Brother HL-6050D which prints well on all settings (I think).

We're currently running 1909, 18363.1379 on my computer, and 2004 19041.867 on my partner's computer. It happens to both of us.

    Hello @THEnt,

I noticed that you have NOT had ANY replies so I thought that I would try and help.

[1] It could possibly be that the Driver is out of date or NOT completely supported by Win 10.
[2] Check the Current Driver Date & Version in Device Manager [ Right-Click => Properties => Driver ].
[3] With that in mind, I spent some time investigating this for you and came across this which may help . . .

    I hope this helps.

those versions are the March 2021 buggy builds that produce printing issues.

to resolve/fix some or most of the printing problems with your Brother printers:
for 1909, you need at least the KB5001648 update (build 18363.1443) or better
and for 2004, you need at least the KB5001649 update (build 19041.870) or better

Thanks, Paul. I had downloaded and installed those drivers, and still have the issue.

better yet, install any of the April 2021 updates for Win10 versions 1909 & 2004, which include the printing bugfixes from both KB5001648 & KB5001649:

    KB5001337 for v1909 - build 18363.1500
    KB5001330 for v2004/20H2 - build 19041.928/19042.928

type winver.exe in the Run dialog box to check if any of those Win10 builds are used

note: the printing problems are not just limited to Brother printers alone; other name brand printers like Canon, Epson & HP may also experience some printing issues with the March 9, 2021 updates for Win10 and have been resolved by installing newer Win10 updates (like the ones from April 2021 or newer). at least Epson is one vendor that acknowledged the printing problems with the Win10 March 2021 updates and advises Win10 users to install newer W10 updates.
