Trying to install w10 on new Samsung 970 Pro NVMe M.2 and during installation Windows cannot locate drivers when using either Dell's installer or Microsoft's. I saw on other posts that users were downloading an executable, "Samsung_NVM_Express_Driver_3.2.exe" not sure how one extracts the driver file from this .EXE?? Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.
How did you create your Windows installer?
is it FAT32 formatted?
Is your SSD controller set as AHCI or IDE in BIOS?

When I run the executable mentioned how do extract the actual driver file?? I run the the exe and it installs on another machine great but the PC in question has a new disk drive so it's blank, if you could expand upon how to get the driver file that would be cool
It's self extracting .exe archive file, you can open it with any archiver but I see no .inf files so it can't be used to update driver. BTW there's newer version 3.3.
W10 should have driver for it built in.
If it can't find it, something is wrong with your windows installation disk.
I had tried multiple drives not sure the root cause as I have yet to mess with the 2 drives, tough when main rig is down.
Did you install the 970 NVMe drive yourself, or is this a Dell installed one?
Anyway, I have two Samsung NVMe 970 Pro in my System and the driver under Windows 10 installs just fine. However, my system is custom built and not a store bought vendor machine.
Also where did you get the drivers? You should be getting them here (provided the drive isn't "Dell" specific /aka OEM)...

BTW, Microsoft doesn't install "Samsung" specific NVMe drivers - i.e. the drivers above.

If I recall correctly, when I installed a 970 EVO NVMe in my laptop, it went something like this.
The OS was already installed on the resident HDD, I installed the NVMe, entered the UEFI setup/bios to confirm the SSD was visible, then booted to Windows 10 from the HDD. Windows installed the driver during the boot and then I used the Samsung exe file to install the NVMe Controller driver.
Do you have any ability to boot from your old HDD after installing the new NVMe SSD? I believe I cloned my HDD using Samsung Magician or similar software although you may be better off to just copy the OS image using Macrium Reflect Free or similar.
When you get the message in the Windows installer that the Drive may need drivers, it is usually because the drive is not being recognized by the computer.
Restart the computer and press F2 to Boot into Setup (Bios) under System Information it will list all of the drives on the computer. If your new NVME is not listed, then it is not installed properly or the Port is not Enabled in the Bios.
To be frank 99.999.9 percent of PC's sold in the last 10 years have already moved from legacy mode so all this UEFI tweaking is moot, unless the board does NOT natively support NVMe drives.
Anyway, Windows does a base driver that insure any drive installed to it can be used immediately. That's what you see under "Disk Drives", and thus the "Microsoft" driver. Samsung recommends the NVMe driver "to ensure optimal performance and to maximize compatibility with your system". Source: Samsung NVMe SSD Product FAQs - Installation. This is the driver seen under "Storage Controllers"
Also, if using Samsung Magician, the software will complain of a missing driver, or may not even see the drive (non OEM). There are also some "OEM" drives like the Samsung's SM951 NVMe drive that the Samsung NVMe driver does NOT support and ONLY needs the Microsoft driver. In fact those OEM drives won't even let you install the NVMe driver.
