Did Dell install the wrong ram?

My 3671 is now about 14 months old. I installed two 8gb Corsair ddr4-2400 sticks of ram in it when I bought it. Never noticed the original stick of ram, just removed and stored it.

Now the Corsair is throwing errors and blue screens, Corsair wants to exchange it. So I put the factory ram back in, the computer works fine now, but the bench shows 2666, not 2400. Sure enough the ram is tagged as 2666mgz. Did Dell install the wrong ram?

Why would you think 2666 is wrong?

Because my cpu i3-9100 is rated to work with 2400, wouldn't they install that instead of 2666, or doesn't it really matter. The computer runs fine, just seems odd.

    There are a few possibilities...

    1. Maybe they only had 2666 RAM, so they used it and tuned the BIOS settings to work with the 2666 RAM.
    2. They might have had a pallet of 2666 RAM and decided to use it up.
    3. Maybe that comp, just worked better with 2666 RAM.

Really depends on what they had on the line at that time. Cuts their cost from having to supply different speeds of RAM to the line when different models are in the mix.
