unwanted optional updates for my non existant MG2500

Several years ago, I must have had that printer but it is since long gone. Yet, when I check for updates, under Windows Update/view optional updates, the Printer Canon MG2500 is there. It is not showing under [DEVICES] nor Control panel Devices and printers. Looked for anything containing MG2500 on my computer and this is the list I got back. Any ideas how to remove this from the update screen?

    Due caution/backups/disk images.. strongly recommended.

Tried Driver Store Explorer, found 3 instances, was able to delete 2 but the third one mg2500p6.inf (even forced) fails to delete. Went right to the driver itself, windows said I am not authorized to do it after repeated attempts.

    Thank you for your reply.

You have the other ideas as well.

Anything can be deleted relatively easily. The problem of undeletable items is raised periodically.
    - Boot from a live boot disk
    - Boot to a command prompt
    - Use a program like Emco Unlockit etc etc

Its beyond me what Windows update looks for to determine, in this case, that the driver mg2500 needs updating? Maybe searching for xxx.inf's and the version compared to newer MS approved one.?? I might just go ahead and install it to the non existent printer. [Image first then experiment ] Tx for info

As to blocking the repeated delivery:
Prevent Windows Update from Updating Specific Device Driver
Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10
Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

    - or one of the free 3rd party utilities such as WUMGR should allow you to scan for and then hide an update.

What is your screenshot actually of? Sorry, can't quite pin it down. Thanks.

If you just delete the file using unlocker or similar - there could be reg entries etc remaining.

If you cant get rid of it via control panel >progs and features, then Better use something like dism++ to uninstall it properly.

1st screen is using "everything" and searched for every instance of mp2500
2nd screen is Driver Store Explorer that you suggested

I then used control panel >progs and features and the only canon entry was of MP230, but uninstalled it anyway. No change.

Will be looking at the DISM method and reading your other suggestions. Tx for the help !!

    dism++ , not dism.

You can see what they are before deciding to delete.
