Enable Someone Else to Print to My Printer

I needed a document sending to me urgently from another person
They said they could send it to my personal printer
    But how is that possible?
Would be really helpful if I knew how

    Please, we need more information.
Where is that person? (same room, on same home network, internet?)
Why don't they send you the document by email?
Do you know this person? Don't give access to your computer to someone you don't know.

Also, there's 2 additional possibilities, one is that some printers have a feature similar to some models of HP printers offering ePrint where a job is sent to an E-Mail address which does the printing. The other that I use is Ethernet-connected printers on my Network and install the printer/s on desired computer as needed and as networked printers rather than USB choice. Wireless/Wi-Fi is also possible.

Sorry I was unhelpful. It is a prescription from my doctor. To my home.
It needs to go to your pharmacy not your home. From there the pharmacy can give you a copy. There are Google Cloud print alternatives. PaperCut Mobility Print - Free Google Cloud Print alternative | PaperCut

I said no as not got a clue if it was ok or even if it worked
    All new to me

    Jo,

You really do need to take this up with your doctor directly in order to find out exactly what he or she is talking about.
    - Find out exactly what the document is
    - Find out why you need to print it rather than save it

Is this the NHS or some form of 'internet doctor'?

This makes me smell a rat. I cannot think of any NHS documentation for which this would be suggested.

    It was the NHS.
We had to go and collect the paperwork in the end from the surgery
I still don't understand how I could have printed it But am very wary of things like that anyway even if legal
Have recently had quite a few phone calls from various individuals trying to con me into admitting my details
    As if I would!!!

I forgot earlier to mention FAX, our local prescription shop uses it to get doctor renewals, clinic uses it to send new prescriptions to the shop, etc. All-in-One printers have it but many folks are dropping landlines in favor of cellphones and that eliminates using FAX.

If this ever happens again then I suggest you ask them to let you download the document from their website [or email it to you].
    - You might choose to start with the reply, "What on earth are you talking about?" then take it from there.
    - And find out why any printing is necessary at all. If they want you to have access to some info then just sending the document for you to keep on your computer would be sufficient.

I had an HP2540 for several years and there is no facility for it being printed to by anything other than a local computer or other local device.
    - I have just checked the manual to make sure that statement is accurate.
