I just replaced an HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 with a 9015 [cost-effectiveness consideration], both offered ePrint where one gets assigned an E-Mail address for the printer and can have messages sent to it and print and also get a confirmation message to the user's account that is given during the set up. I hadn't done it back with my even older 8600 and still haven't, don't have the need yet.

    But how is that possible?
Would be really helpful if I knew how
My Printer is a HP2540 basic printer
To answer the base question, and Berton touched on it, some printers, example my Epson XP-960 are capable of allowing you to print remotely from anywhere over the internet. For Epson, this feature is called Epson Connect - It offers the capability to print files to a remote printer easily.

If your printer has such a feature, it would tell you and you should have documentation on how to setup and use. If you have no such feature, you could simply have them email you the document and print it yourself.

    Hope this helps.

The HP2540 does not have that capability.

    Thanks for the reply
The prescription went to the chemist
But there was other paperwork the Doc asked if I would print
I said no as not got a clue if it was ok or even if it worked
    All new to me
In the USA, you could ask the doctor to fax the prescription to the chemist or pharmacy. Maybe that option is available in the UK. In some situations in the USA, the doctor can use an online system to order the prescription.

If you still want a copy of the prescription, ask the doctor to send it to you by email.

In the United States all doctors I have send nothing through email. All documents go through their web portals. I log into the portal and read or retrieve any documents. The last documents I filled out were all online so there was nothing to print.

Have you been to every doctor's office in the whole United States?

Anyway, I've yet to get any prescription through any portal. Most of the time I just have them send to where I get my prescriptions filled. If they can't they hand it to me.

And I do have a portal setup while I can review my doctors note, treatments, and what not.

I was told that doctors offices and medical providers would never use email because of HIPAA privacy considerations. HIPAA is a federal law so I expect most doctors and medical providers throughout the United States to comply in similar ways. Third party portals were set up to provide a source for secure communications.

When the portals were first set up I found it a waste to make a request for an appointment or refills because the doctors and their staff rarely checked for patient requests there. I ended up having to call them for this. This was annoying because I would be on hold for 30 minutes or more before I got to talk to someone.

Since the advent of COVID-19 some of my medical providers have discovered the value of portals. Now I can usually make appointments, request refills, and contact my doctor and actually get a response with a day or two.

Keenly understand HIPAA is a federal law; I'm hit with signing one every time I visit a doctor

As for use of "email" where prescriptions are concerned, I get your point.

And while I wouldn't use a portal as a replacement to seeing a doctor, at least on an initial diagnoses, I do see the value of using a portal.

At any rate, we're getting way off topic here
