I want a USB C male to USB C female (X 2) Y splitter. I have trudged around Ebay and other sites, checking out thousands of cables and adapters without finding one. Why is this? Is there a reason why it would not be suitable for USB C? My requirement seems quite straight forward to me: I have one USB C port available and two devices I wish to connect to it.

Thanks for trying, but none of these (or links from them) are what I am looking for, which is one C male to two (or more) C female. I have found, apart from added complication like being intended for MAC, Thunderbird, OTG etc, what is commonly available is C to only one C (at best) plus an audio connection (very common), USB 2, Micro, HDMI etc etc -- just about anything except for the two type C females. How else can I create 2 type C ports from the 1 type C 3 port available? I tried searching for 'USB type C port splitter' you suggest, with much the same response.
What is the reason for this absence of USB C port splitters, Hubs etc? Is it something to do with a little known weakness / defect of C itself? To illustrate, I have accumulated a number of differently designed USB 2 Hubs over the years, partly because I have had 'small storage' 2-in-1 TabletPCs. I have no trouble adding to storage as much as I wish. If I had had only one USB 2 port it would be no problem, just plug in a USB Hub to get another half dozen, or more, and at little cost. So why not the same with USB C? I have just looked again at all the Hubs on Ebay, all I find when specifying C is the connection to the PC and occasionally just one C port, plus a multitude of other unwanted ports. And that one C port is no help because in the process I would have lost the availability of the port on the PC! Unless there is some hidden reason I don't know about, the absence of Y splitter cables or Hubs seems daft to me, especially as there has been a growth in the popularity of small Tablet PCs. While low price is welcome the main thing I look for is connectivity. My present 10.1 Chuwi has 2 standard ports, an HDMI port, audio port, SD card port AND 2 USB C ports. one for data and 1 for data plus power. The power point is occupied with charging, so I want to expand the connectivity of the data port as it is now going to be used for a USB C Ethernet Adapter (1000 GB) ---to replace a lower speed Ethernet Adapter via a USB 2 Hub. From what I have seen of larger Laptops costing upwards of three times more my little machine has more connectivity than any of them, but I am hoping it can be improved upon eventually.
When I looked for a USBC hub I ended up getting a USB3 hub to which I attached a USB3-USBC adapter.
This was the best I could do because I wanted a simple set of other USB sockets - I did not want the grand mixture of HDMIs, SD card readers & kitchen sinks that sellers seem to think are essential.

If this is what you are referring to I have not yet been able to find it on Amazon despite searching. However, that type of device (which usually has a non-type C audio port or whatever) has a fundamental flaw --- it covers up and prevents access to a neighbouring port, and on my machine that means the other USB C port! I didn't mention that, as I thought I had done enough grumbling...... Still, I would be interested to have the url for that page if only to see what is said about it.
If you 'attach a USB C Adapter" doesn't that have the effect of reducing the power throughput of USB C to the USB 2 level it is connecting through?
