Are their drivers for the Samsung PM981A SSD NVME M.2?

    Hello Everyone,
I recently bought a new laptop with the Samsung PM981a SSD NVME M.2. I feel that the drive isn't fast, especially for this SSD and I don't see Samsung NVME driver in my Device Manager. I read online that the Samsung NVME driver is necessary to boost the performance of the drive. When I go to Samsung's website, there is no driver for the PM981a, at least I cannot find it. Anybody can help me to locate the driver for the PM981a SSD? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Before jumping to conclusions, you might want to benchmark it:
    CrystalDiskMark – Crystal Dew World

You need to post a screen shot of the SSD's Hardware ID...
In Device manager, right click you SSD and choose Properties.
Then click the Details tab, and in the drop down box, choose Hardware Ids.

I benchmarked two of my SSD's - the Samsung 860 PRO SATA III and the Samsung PM981A NVMe M.2 and honestly I didn't find that the PM981A which is a NVMe M.2 v3.0 SSD was all that faster compared to the SATA III SSD. There is definitely something wrong with this picture or it's false advertising. Either way, I don't feel it at all when I run things like Lightroom, Photoshop, browsing, opening up apps and other things.
I am attaching two screenshots of the two SSD's benchmarks. Have a look.

I think your expectations of performance were a little too high. You achieved a nearly 3x increase in benchmark performance. However, in real world usage, most users don't notice much, if any increase in performance between SATA III and NVMe SSDs.

Samsung PM981a are OEM devices and have no special drivers. Just stock ms NVME.
There are modded drivers, install at you're own risk.

I'm just surprised that 4K and 4K-64THRD READ do not differ much in speed between the two, and the 4K and 4K-64THRD are the most important. Plus, on the Samsung side, they do give different speeds. Client SSD | Samsung Semiconductor Global Website

Plus, I was talking with my friend and he got the Gigabyte Aorus GP-ASM2NE6100TTTD and his speeds are these and said that its performance is currently being capped by the fact that his motherboard only has PCI-E 3, not 4. So how is this possible? Don't you see anything wrong with this picture? His speeds are way above mine.

Different benchmark, but see: UserBenchmark: Gigabyte Aorus NVMe PCIe M.2 vs Samsung PM981

It appears that the PM981 is not an especially fast M.2 SSD. The difference may not be seen outside of benchmarks, though.

My desktop uses a PCI-E 4.0 WS M.2 SSD. (The mainboard is AMD X570, PCI-E 4.0 capable.) On the same benchmark it tests near 7.0 GBps for sequential reads, but it didn't change my life compared to a PCI-E 3.0 drive.

That's interesting. Well, thanks for the info. Benchmarks are one thing, and real performance is another thing. One person told me that I won't feel a difference when I would be using a computer with a SATA III SSD and another computer with a NVMe. He told me that in benchmarks I would see the difference but wouldn't feel it in reality.

You are right. One person did.
