Need help with Windows Fax and Scan please

    Just installed a new SSD.

Previously used Vuescan, but despite having the 'pay once, use forever' version of Vuescan, every time I need to reinstall it or have a problem with it, it starts to put a watermark on everything I scan. I am getting fed up of having to email and ask them to send me yet another exe that will work without a watermark, so looking to move away and use the MS scanner software if possible.

We have an elderly but perfectly good Epson Perfection 1640SU scanner that we want to use with Windows Fax and Scan, but the scanner is not being recognised when we try to do this.

Can anyone advise on what we need to do to sort this please.

    Thanks

I don't understand why you are downloading a new copy of VueScan when are having problems. That will not solve your problems. To get rid of the watermarks you must activate VueScan. To do this you must enter the following information from your invoice

    • E-mail address
    • Serial number
    • Customer number

BTW, I am using VueScan with a twenty year old Canon N656U scanner.

    Entering Serial Number Into VueScan
    1. Make sure you're using an Administrator account.
    2. Run VueScan (and use "Help | About" if three boxes not displayed)
    3. Enter the info from the receipt into the three boxes.
    4. See if OK appears in all three boxes.
    5. Press Close.

Agreed. The watermark usually appears on the Trial [free to try] versions, been there and done that. The registration of the program removes that watermark, a number of other/different programs do the same. Have seen times when the next downloads are simply the Trial copies.

E-mail address, Serial number, Customer number -- I have those in a tiny text file, copyNpaste as needed for every update. Email address has to be the original one used at the time of the pay-for order. Even though they now email notices to my gmail account, I still have to enter sbcglobal in that activate box.

If you lost the original receipt you might be able to recreate it from this web site:

Good advice to solve your current Vue Scan issue, but if it cannot be resolved to your liking, I can recommend the Store free Scanner App. I've used it over and over with no issues and it has a ton of options. I don't normally push or even recommend Store Apps, but this one is an exception. It actually works, and works very well. Price is right, too.

@RolandJS ... Fabler2 posted the link to it. It really is slick, works well.
