A Way Only Enable Touchpad mouse-Keys?

    Hello everyone,

Just as the tile asked, is there a way in Windows to only enable the left and right buttons of a laptop's touchpad? I mean, touchpad often comes with its surface sensing function, and at least two keys usually at the bottom as the left and right clicks of your mouse. The question is what if I only want to disable the surface touch-sensing but leave the keys enabled?

This makes sense to me because in some occasions, doing typing and writing office work, laptop's touchpad becomes a bit of nuisance because of the standard way we put our hands on the keyboard but accidentally touch the pad, which disrupts the fluence of work process. But on the other hand, you do find convenience when you can use your either hand to manipulate only the mouse keys on your laptop. Rarely, anyone would accidentally click the keys on your touchpad so it would be better design if one can leave the 'clicks' enabled while disable the touchpad sensing.

This might be just more of a genral design of comfort issue and I suppose it can be easily done by software?

I have Windows 10 Pro version 2004 and it is generally doing fine. One easily can set the whole touchpad disabled if a mouse plugged-in. I previously have learned quite a lot from Tenforums and Sevenforums so I am quite confident to learn more from here. I would thank anyone in advance if they find my question sensible as well; and thank you for taking time to read my text.

    Best regards

Hi, I suspect that is only possible if the particular touchpad driver provided that function.

Some touchpads have 'palm check' which tries to stop what you describe.

You can also reduce their sensitivity.

Thank you very much for the reply, dalchina. That makes sense as I did a bit of online searches and found this software interface. But I assume this is for a particular brand or type of touchpad which would not be available for most of other laptops, right?

It seems like the only option at the moment might be the 'low sensitivity' in Windows and I will certainly try if this works out to some extent. A Way Only Enable Touchpad mouse-Keys?-annotation-touchpad.png

There are various manufacturers of touchpads, and various drivers from e.g. Synaptics- at least 3 quite different looking ones.

There are two sets of controls to check
    a. Those in Settings
    b. Those via e.g. the Control Panel, Mouse (from which the palm check screenshot)

One way: If you use the Search box - perhaps on your taskbar- or Win key + S and type
    mouse
    you should see both shown.

DalChina, would a 3rd party utility help in this case? In case the palm check doesn't quite cut it.

Thank you RolandJS and thank you dalchina providing the options. This is what I was actually looking for - third part add-ons simply do the small job and I will give it a try. In fact, by setting low-sensitivity in Winows, the situation of accidentally touching pad improved and less mistakes would be made during typing. So it was a worth trying as well.

I have a Razer Blade 15 and their drivers and the Razer Synapse haven't really provide those advanced settings. Interestingly enough, Razer Blade laptops even the studio edition's BIOS is also very generic (you know blue screen of that manufacturing type) which doesn't provide elaborative settings at all. So I would say there are limited brands may offer more customisable drivers. But anyway, thank you for these knowledge.

it's surprising how touchpads can have so many options yet not quite the one you want..
