Intel drivers causing windows to bsod

I was using ms autoruns to get rid of some useless startup programs, when i found a couple of startup programs from intel. why are these so important that they causes windows to bsod if i disable them, and do i really need them to start up with windows?

    • Intel rapid storage enterprise driver.
    • Intel rapid storage technology enterprise filter driver.
    • Intel usb 3.0 host controller switch driver.

    Does the computer have:
    SSD
    HD
    HD and SSD

For chipset drivers you can use default Microsoft drivers.
For better performance use the Intel chipset drivers.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) can be uninstalled in computers with SSD.

Those are critical drivers, if you want them to no longer be used I expect the proper way is to change the driver in device manager or via the intel uninstaller, because if you disable them, there needs to be another i/o driver to replace them, you cannot boot your PC without any kind of i/o controller driver.

I see, what's the specific reason that intel rapid storage isn't needed if you have an ssd?

Speed isnt everything, I remember 18 months ago doing some testing in windows 10 comparing the msahci driver to the intel RST.

The drive was generating errors, and msahci the errors just went up and up, but when I installed the RST, it had a feature where it auto dropped the SATA speed to a lower band, so e.g. from gen 3 to gen 2, only on that port and until a reboot, it was effective at stopping more errors, so greater chance of data preservation.

When there were only HDs boot times and performance were slow (end user and benchmark).
With the drop in prices of SSD they replaced spinning drives.
Bridging the gap between large capacity spinning drives and fast small SSD was IRST.
IRST allowed large capacity spinning drives to function faster using very small SSDs as flash cache.
SSDs continued to drop in price.
Now an end user can purchase a new computer with a large capacity SSD.

For storage an end user can purchase a very large capacity external storage drive:
