    Hello/good morning Tore,
If you find any Macrium Reflect videos or web links particularly useful to you, please feel free to share them as I or other people may find them useful if they are in a similar situation to you of being totally new to Macrium Reflect. Thank you

Good morning, Steve. So far I did not look for anything else than what the forum produced. I was reading about Ashampoo which seems to do incremental backup as if it was differential. I am not sure I understand it correctly so I am give you a part of the description below.

"Ashampoo Backup uses a different principle for image backup: "Reverse incremental backup". First, a full backup is created. During the next backup, the data of the full backup is moved completely to the new backup and the old backup is replaced by an incremental version. The old backup then only contains the differences to the subsequent backup. In case of an reverse incremental backup, the latest backup is always a full backup."

Is this incremental or differential backup or a combination of both? I have to admit that I am quite lost in this subject...

Oh, I forgot; how does MR work?

    - - - Updated - - -

Now I have another strange discovery; explorer shows the LaCie external disk when it is not connected to the PC. It also shows all disk details...

I don't mean that you should explain how MR works in detail, just as a contrast to Ashampoo's incremental backup...

If I download MR is it possible to "play" with it to learn how it works without in fact doing a backup?

Yes, download MR, play with it, I encourage you to make a full backup too - which you can easily delete. Don't forget you can watch someone else use it first on YouTube - search for a speaker you like who doesn't go/talk too fast. And play with the speed control on the video too.

Re LaCie, are you seeing this in File Explorer? What happens if you click on the drive in FE like you're trying to access it in this disconnected state?

I will have to answer the other questions later or anyone else it welcome to answer them

Thanks, Steve, I will do that...

Yes, The LaCie shows in explorer. If I click on "characteristics" it shows all info like number of files, used and free space etc. Clicking on the disk only gives a text file Recovery.txt from 2016 when I first used the disk. The rest of the files are not there...

I will be away from home for a few hours now, Steve, so nu rush to respond. See you

Does LaCie get cleaned out of FE if you refresh FE or open a new one or reboot your computer?
