share single keyboard dongle using a usb switch either PC or fireTV

Situation, I have a PC and also a Firestick 4K
I recently have been learning to use a keyboard and mouse wired with a usb hub for the firestick, and it works well, like on Opera web browser, other things like ADB commands to the firestick.

I have a wireless RF Logitech 400+ keyboard-mouse combo keyboard.
Plugged into PC, it controls PC, plug into usb hub, it controls firestick4K

Is there a switch device to allow the one dongle to work on either firestick or PC, see that way push a button, and same keyboard will work on either device.

So like one USB port spreading out to 2 output cables connecting to PC or firestick with a toggle switch to set destination.

ok, I did find one kinda pricey though, anyone have some thing else?

Appears that device works the same as a KVM, Keyboard, Video, Mouse switch used with 1 of each with 2 or more computers. I have a 4-port KVM with 4 computers running different Operating Systems and just 1 Keyboard 1 monitor and 1 Mouse, press a button to choose which computer to use. The described device would be the solution for what is desired.

found one for half that price, so now it is more interesting. already have the needed usb cables
    Amazon.com

except looking at reviews seems it backfeeds power, so connected devices get power when should not.
Is that going to be a big problem?

Good price and never had an issue with Sabrent products. Just be sure to use USB 2.0 ports on the computer and Firestick if available [sometimes USB 3 is questionable especially with printers].

I looked a little closer at that switch and even though the description is for USB 2.0 the sockets as shown are for USB 3, indicated by the blue centers. USB 3 usually is fall-back to USB 2 but the cable ends are different for USB 3.

USB 3 does provide more power than USB 2 for devices that need it and may work in recharging things like iPods and SmartPhones.

I may get that sabrent one. I have been using an OTG cable to a powered usb 3.0 hub for the firestick4k, to extend its internal memory with a 3.0 32gb flash drive and a wired keyboard and wired mouse.
So the hub would plug into this switch, and each line run to the 2 devices.
I understand its 2.0 switch. the OTG cable and firestick 4k port is 2.0 as is the PC.

Other way is keep the USB hub simply for firestick use as in plug switch into hub, then hub into OTG cable. keyboard dongle into switch.

And the usb hub backfeeds power into the firestick and has not caused any problems, it even powers the stick,
I have both the OEM firestick power cube inputting power and the hub.

so I dont get what those negative comments are about fried usb ports.

I am glad I bought an RF keyboard-mouse, as if it had been Bluetooth, what I am going to do would be impossible
Bluetooth has some use, eliminates need for an rf dongle plugged into a usb port, but it locks you into a one on one pairing to a single device, meaning the device can not be shared EASILY to another device, like in the same room. I wish now the Bluetooth PS4 game controller was RF, not bluetooth, as see it cant easily be swapped between firestick 4K and the PC by way of this usb switch.

The firestick has Bluetooth radio built - in, cant be turned off, you would have to unplug it from the wall and re-pair it with the PC, then to switch back, turn off Bluetooth on PC, plug in the firestick, and re-pair it to that. What a pain.

I got AB switch and it works but it causes problems when used with the usb 3.0 hub....Windows reports
unknown usb device device descriptor failed, device not recognized and shows a warning. when going into device manager, it shows one line with that error inside the usb stack. however the ports do work.
If I plug hub directly into the PC, with no switch in the middle, no error.
If I plug the keyboard dongle into the switch with no hub and then into PC no error.
Only when the hub is plugged into the switch and switch into PC, does windows show this error!!??.
The firestick works ok with it.

    another unexplainable incompatible device combo.

The other thing really bad here about windows 10, I have an android formatted stick that extends my firestick internal memory. If windows 10 sees that drive, it complains, cant see the drive, and it must be formatted, and it throws you into an endless loop, you cancel, it brings another warning page, cancel that goes back to first warning page, looping circle over and over, ought to take a video, cause there is no escape....all you can do is right click the folder icon and say close the folder windows, and it takes a long time to close them all...
So every time I will switch the AB switch with that flash android formatted drive, windows will throw up usb device not recognized, and vociferously loop me complaining about the flash drive....
So the hub, can not be placed as an input to the AB switch...

It will have to serve the firestick only. too bad.

see if windows throws up a warning decision box inside on top of explorer, you cant x out the explorer window, you must exit the message box, but as soon as you do, it throws up another warning message box about the drive, and you close it and brings back the first message box, add to infinity and beyond, honestly that is a problem.

it's also dangerous to the data on the android formatted drive, because it defaults to formatting, people could just click ok, and then all your android app data is gone.

It is discouraging about that hub and that switch. I have a different usb 3 hub made by Anker to try, but I have to drive to the boat to get it to test the switch with another hub. If it also errors on that hub, I might send back the switch to Amazon saying its not as described. IT is supposed to be a DUMB mechanical switch but obviously it does something unexpected.

I did not use the usb cables came with the hub, left them sealed in the plastic, I used some I had, but I doubt that is an issue?

Running blog here... I discovered it was the USB cable I was using. I tried a known usb2.0 cable and no error. I had been reading that usb 1 cable shielding is not good enough for usb 2 devices, so that is why the error in device manager.

new discovery, it is not the cable, I determined the first cables I used work if plugged into a different port, a usb port on the back of the motherboard. When I built this PC, I had an old USB port extender which attaches to a motherboard usb header, and exits to a bracket that goes into an unused case slot. Apparently that extender is a problem, maybe not using usb 2 cablling in its construction...

still leaves the issue of the unrecognized drive and windows demanding a format, anyway around that?
