I don't notice any mention of file shredder software. I have never used one, but there is freeware available that purports to wipe individual files. If that's true, it seems to me (in my ignorance) that it shouldn't interfere with the ability to recover other files.

Also, to state the obvious: never keep any data on your OS drive that a repair technician might find, er, entertaining.

For all pedophiles: please ignore that advice. No repair tech would ever dream of turning you in.

I've lost all files like important photos and videos, docs etc. So that I'm giving my laptop to the expert to get back my photos, videos etc. What I want is I want to wipe data in single folder becuase of p*rn films are stored in that folder so that I don't want to show up to the expert while recovering. Can I wipe that single folder that he can't recover these p*rn files right?
    Suggest the software please
Thank you waiting very urgent reply
Do not write files to or install any programs to the drive. Some of your lost files could be overwritten. You can copy the folder with your videos to a external drive. Then the folder on your drive can be securely deleted. I think it can be done from a windows command prompt. I never tried it so someone else would have to explain how. If you decide to use a 3rd party program to securely delete the folder look for a program that doesn't have to be installed. I use Eraser when I delete files and folders from drives when I'm going to give my old computers or laptops to someone. Then I do a complete clean install of Windows. I don't think Eraser has a portable version.

Same I did important media files cut and copied to wd drive and by mistake somehow formatted in WD drive. So that it won't get back my important media files either?

If you want to encrypt the folder you can use a portable version of a encryption program. I have used VeraCrypt in the past. If you use the portable version you don't have to install it. I would suggest using another computer to download it to a flash drive if possible. VeraCrypt - Free Open source disk encryption with strong security for the Paranoid

    Hi folks
Simply write X'00' (Hex zero) to every byte on the file you want to erase / secure erase.
You can get the file extent (I.e disk physical address) from the directory header on the HDD.

Plenty of good Linux tools for that but on Windows this utility might be of value : (Format -Hex)

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pow...powershell-7.1

The problem with data encryption if you send system away for recovery is that how does the technician determine if the data has been restored properly.

    Cheers
