Did not eject USB HDD before unplugging it...

The USB HDD was idle...it was not doing anything and I unplugged it without ejecting it..all of the files were closed and not accessed by any program...Could some files get corrupted ?

Another Question...If I have a file open on the USB HDD or if something is being written or read from the USB HDD and then I eject the disk, Will I get a "Safe to Remove Hardware" notification ?

I am asking because I didn't know if the USB HDD was in USE and then I ejected and I received a "Safe to Remove Hardware" notification..so I unplugged the USB HDD..Am I ok ? was the USB HDD active when I ejected it ?

If you unplugged the USB HDD when it was idle, you likely did not corrupt anything.

If you try to eject the USB HDD (which you should always do before unplugging it), the OS will not eject the HDD until it is done with it.

Also, in device manager, right click on your USB hard drive entry (the HDD has to be connected). Select properties, the look on the policies tab. Read each one carefully to decide which one to select.

Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk X: /f (replace x with the drive letter)
It may say your disk is in use and if you want to un mount it = Yes

ok, so for the first question I think I did not corrupt anything...since the HDD was not doing anything and the policy was set to "Quick Removal".

After unplugging it, I plugged it back in and ran the following tests:

    chkdsk g: /r
    Seatools short self test
    Seatools Short generic test

and all of the above tests passed without problems...so that settles question #1 ...

How about my other question ?
