New Black Only Laser Printer, Scanner, Fax Recommendations?

I'm looking to replace my 10 ten year old Brother inexpensive Laser printer with the above combo. Perhaps I would have been better served asking this question during the holiday season but nonetheless what inexpensive reliable brand/ model would you all recommend for light personal non office or business use. Win 10. TIA.

Thanks for replying. If it is anything like this one https://www.bestbuy.com/site/brother...oc=1&gclsrc=ds US it does not come with faxing capabilities which I would want if I am going to get a new setup.

This one OTOH seems to have fax capabilities https://www.bestbuy.com/site/brother...?skuId=6138321

I wish I had started looking for a model during the holiday season.

    I had a Brother MFC-L2740DW.

I didn't use the fax capability much. (If there was a way for a fax device and a telephone to co-exist on a single line, I didn't know about it.)

Its manual feed didn't work well for my purposes (the paper didn't jam, but it went through skewed), but aside from that, it was good. I've preferred Brother for years because their driver support for products that were a few years old seems superior to other makers (HP, Canon).

Thanks for the reply. I think nowadays most of these all in ones are wireless. Correct me if I am wrong but I was planning on using WiFi and sending faxes like that. Your model seems to indicate it was wireless as well. Doesn't wireless mean that you can connect via WiFi and you could have sent faxes like that without having to occupy your phone line?

You said had. Have you since replaced this one with a different model and if so was it an all in one fax, scanner, copier, printer etc?

1 Wireless refers to how the computer is connected to the fax machine.
    - The fax machine still needs to be plugged in to the phone line.
    - Fax machines and telephones / answering machines can co-exist on the same phone line. The fax machine commonly asks you about this during installation then sets itself up in the required manner.

2 I hope you do not mind my querying your question i.e. your objective.
2.1 Who are you going to fax instead of emailing?
2.2 Who is going to fax you instead of emailing you?

3 I do think you need to define inexpensive.

"Wireless" in this context means WiFi. I didn't use that either. The machine was connected to my router via an Ethernet cable.

As far as I know, there was no capability of sending or receiving faxes via the network connection (hard or WiFi). Only the phone jack could be used.

The machine sits in my basement, disconnected. I was having trouble with the the manual feed. (Label stock went through skewed.) I presumed that any repair would be more than the machine was worth, so I tried a DCP-L2550DW. (Similar, but no fax.) Its performance, brand new, was about the same. (Incidentally, putting the label stock in the regular paper tray seems to work just fine. Unexpectedly.)

I am unaware of the setup option suggested by "Try3", that the fax function could have been set up to operate in a friendly fashion on a single voice line. The limitations are significant (https://faxauthority.com/faq/phone-a...nctive%20ring.) Part of my lack of study of that was basically I didn't give a damn. I'm astonished that anyone still uses fax. At least in the US, legal documents can be sent via the Net. Accountants and medical practices still seem to use fax. Whether this is due to outdated legal considerations or an unwillingness to train their staff on technology from the late 20th century, I don't know. (Rant mode OFF.)

I checked in my own User manual to make sure I was correct [I've never used this mode. Like you, I have not sent a fax for many years].

My current printer-scanner was not inexpensive but I've written out these notes in the hope that they might be of some assistance to phraed in formulating a set of requirements.

When I finally got fed up with infrequent printing needs causing too-frequent inkjet gunging up & cleaning through, I bought an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw
    - It prints [both sides if asked to]
    - It scans & OCRs [both sides if asked to]
    - Both printing & scanning are in colour unless you tell it otherwise {I got my first colour printer 30 years ago and will never revert}
    - It has two paper inputs so I can print on envelopes without messing about
    - It has a 50 page paper handler so I can OCR user manuals & instruction books before I mislay / spill paint all over the originals.
    - Not all scanners that can do double-sided scanning can also do so in their automatic sheet feeder but this one can
    - The 50 page limit can be exceeded if you are prepared to sit there feeding additional groups of pages into it as it works its way through.
    - It has a 3 year guarantee [never needed].
    - It has a never-used fax capability.

HP is forever creating special offers, I got mine for £244 three years ago [it was probably available for $244 then as well].
    - Actually it was £344 from the cheapest mail order supplier I could find less the special offer £100 Cashback claimed directly from HP.
    - I imagine there is a US equivalent page for HP Voucher & Discount Codes - HP Store UK

Well, that leaves me blowing in the wind. All I have is a cell phone. No land line thus no phone line. I wonder if there is someway to spoof my cellphone "phone line" into a land line : )

    >Who are you going to fax

I need to occasionally fax certain items to an attorney, real estate broker and apartment management company that request some business be done via fax and not email.

    >I do think you need to define inexpensive.

Yeah, I was hoping to get away with under $200.00 since this does not have to be an office/ business machine but one that I barebones albeit with the capabilities I want.
