you would load os disks into ram space and also have one drive holding a system disk, and use other drives for data.
Otherwise you had to constantly switch disks out back and forth. Those systems worked ok for word processing at the time.
One disk was A:\, another B:\
I marked this solved as I tested 8 diskette drives. Test was disconnect all other drives except one disk drive, determine which way red mark on cable faces (you get it wrong access led stays on all the time) Most drives face the mark to the right if looking at drive front. SO 4 of the drive cant read any disks.
Do they get dirty inside? I seem to remember a disk cleaning diskette?

Yes, I noticed that when testing some floppies on a windows 7 pc, sometimes would say unformatted when there was data on the drive. Then when trying to format, explorer would instantly crash.
After I put in verified working drives, windows 7 seems to read and write ok.
I wanted to create a server test disk from an Intel download for Intel serverboard s875wp1-e, so was running into problems.
But I got it to create the disk. Supposedly the test runs through the system board testing all parts of it. BUT the test is defective maybe as the LAN port PRO 100ve fails to start under windows, however the test disk says everything is good and working on the motherboard? I even plug in a network cable, the lights come on, but the device has a problem and can not start according to windows OS.
luckily, the PRO 1000gb port does work.
So am going to boot up a LInux live usb on the board and see if that port works.
I have 2 of those boards, one board is perfect under windows, other shows the PRO 100ve cant start error.
